Re: barn find 67 c-10

Wow! A color change! Nice work!

In the past my dad mentioned it was common Practice to spray use motor oil from a garden sprayer to the underside then drive a dirt or gravel road. We lived on the gulf coast and it helped it from rusting underneath an also added sound proofing. (?)

Re: barn find 67 c-10

So Saturday I let my mother in law in my shop to show her the state that her truck was in. She was shocked that it was dissasembled. Then I showed her the pile of parts, including the 5.3/4l60, and how the paint looked all cleaned up. She couldnt believe that Sally was getting all these upgrades and still look like the truck her Daddy drove. I'm going to tell you I've been paid to do all kind of work on cars and trucks, but there is no amount of money that can buy that feeling. To be able to see her go back to her childhood is priceless.

OK with that being said I need some advice on wheels, You can see in previous pictures the steel wheels and hubcaps it had. I'm thinking some 15x10 steel wheels for the rear and 15x8 for the front. I'm going to have to change the wheels since I'm going to 5 lug from 6 lug. But I'd LOVE to keep the old hubcaps. I'm planning a 2/4 or 3/4 drop also. Any advice?

Re: barn find 67 c-10

You have an awsome find and a great mother-in-law. You are a lucky man!
As a couple of others have said, that truck could be Hazel's long lost twin...
Paint looks good buffed out. How ever you are doing it, I would keep at it.

As far as the wheels and drop, I would start with the steelies like you mentioned and a 2.5"/4" drop. I would use a 2.5" drop spindle in the front and a 4" drop coil in the rear. That way if you would like the front lower, it is just a simple spring swap. I would not do any more that a 4-5" rear drop. More than that and you should run a C-notch for suspension travel.

FYI - those caps are from a 64-66 model, are those the ones that came with the truck when new? I have never seen them on a '67...

That would explain why I cant find them in any photos of 67's but according to my Mother in law thats how she always remembers the truck. Her father traded a 48 model GMC in on the 67 in 1967. Who knows why they were put on it.

Re: barn find 67 c-10

Ok so yesterday I ordered a 4/6 drop from Early Classic, Some headers for the 5.3, a radiator, electric fans, shroud, and brake booster/master cylinder set up off of ebay. So the UPS driver should stay pretty busy this week and next week.

I think I've decided to go with 15x8 and 15x10 steel wheels fome Wheel Smith. I need some advice on backspacing since they custom make each wheel. Any advice?

I'm planning on a 255/60 on the front and 275/60 on the rear. But like with all things I'm open to suggestions

The Wheel Smith and the Wheel Vintiques O.E.M. style wheels will accept a stock 10 1/8" diameter cap. Wheel Vintiques does not show a 5 on 5" lug pattern on the web site for the OEM wheels...

I'm not sure about the Smoothie styles...
