Re: Project Suspended License: 71 C10 SWB LSx swap

Completely ruined a new 5 liter's day over the weekend. Let him get 3-4 cars out on me then decided to reel him in and had 2-3 on him by the top of 3rd. Still on the gates @ 8#.
This thing is fun - everybody should have one.

Re: Project Suspended License: 71 C10 SWB LSx swap

Got sidetracked off of the truck for a while, decided to get back to my roots.
Time to slam the new drivetrain/suspension/brakes in the wagon.
Uh oh!

Good thing we have this to put in there:

Going to replace the old 17" steelies with a set of these:

Stuck the Strange S60 up under it with new Hotchkis rear springs. Nerve wracking, hoping the diff fit (wagons have different floorpans) and that the width was correct AND the backspacing measurements I took for the wheels was correct.
Luckily, everything went together perfect and man, it's LOW

Here you can see the nice lip on the wheels:

You can see the new bullet in the bottom right corner of the last pic there. Painted it correct color for the year - 68 HP motors are turquoise.
It's a 69 HP block + .030 with a 4.25 crank/H-beams and forged flat tops. .125 head gaskets get the compression down around 8.2:1 which will go nicely with the Procharger it will be getting over the winter. Has ported RPM heads and a pretty aggressive solid cam.
I changed the PRW rockers out for some Harland Sharp's.
Hoping to have it back up and running n/a by the end of the month. We'll see, still have a lot to do but going to be having some 3 day weekends which will help me get some more time in on it.
Not truck related but it's old junk and why I haven't done anything more on the beater truck.
Once the wagon is done I'm going to look into getting the rack setup on it and get the exhaust finished up. Open downpipe by the wife's feet has gotten me a couple dirty looks with fingers in ears at WOT.

Took the truck up to Minneapolis for a friends' car party.
The throttle got away from a few of us...mine are the first set.

Re: Project Suspended License: 71 C10 SWB LSx swap

Thanks man!
Nope, got a few decent offers but did some more thinking about it and decided to hang onto it. Just too much fun!

Re: Project Suspended License: 71 C10 SWB LSx swap

Hey awesome build man. What column did you use, stock or different year or? I'm putting a 4L80 in mine and was just going to make it floor shift but would like to keep a column shift. You may have put or said what you did but I didn't see it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks! I used a truck tilt and lokar linkage kit. All bolted right in with no fuss.

Re: Project Suspended License: 71 C10 SWB LSx swap

Almost a year since I updated this.
Successful summer and not much changed - had the tune redone by a guy in Minneapolis, http://www.cjtunes.com. Carl did a great job, truck is a whole new animal since his work.
Still on 8# and hangs right with some friends' high 9/low 10 cars from a 60 hit when it hooks up. But, now that I've finally finished off the Hankooks that came on the TT's I'll be getting some 29/10.50 ET Drags for it for next year. Those should help with that problem.
Picked up a billet internal 4L80E for it a couple months back, I'll probably toss it in there this winter at some point.
Also going to check out the rear suspension/4 wheel alignment as it has started pulling left when hazing the tires which makes me very uncomfortable…right all day long, left no likey.

Finally got some quick videos doing a couple roll ons at a friends car party - same place as last year. Any party that encourages burnouts is my kinda place.

Re: Project Suspended License: 71 C10 SWB LSx swap

Truck is officially for sale.
Billet trans is in, quad lock converter too. Ready to make 4 digit power.
Takes $20k to leave with it. Buckets/console setup can be added for more $.
Who wants to get foolish?
