Re: LS1 Bagged 52 Chevy 3100 Build

I also ordered up my custom made fuel cell from Boyds welding. I highly recommend this company. Very good price compared to competition and easy to work with. They have a diagram online and you just fill out your measurements and draw where you want everything mounted on your tank on there diagram and they build you a tank to your specifications in 7-10 days. Again i highly recommend Boyds Welding. Here is the finished product. Hoping to have it installed in the truck this weekend. More pics to come!

Re: LS1 Bagged 52 Chevy 3100 Build

I got to work on the truck Saturday, I fabbed up my mounting bracket for my fuel cell and air tank to bolt to and got all that welded in. Everything lined up very nicely.

Re: LS1 Bagged 52 Chevy 3100 Build

Here it is with the fuel cell mounted with the air tank. The only thing left to do is welding in the 1x1 tubing in front of the cell and to figure out the best way to "hold it down" incase of a roll over. So far im thinking either use some metal straps or maybe fabricate something with angle iron kinda like a battery hold down. Any suggestions?

Re: LS1 Bagged 52 Chevy 3100 Build

Well this weekend I finished up the fuel cell mounting and added a bar in front to keep the tank from moving forward. I also picked up a driveshaft for the truck and got it installed this weekend. After doing some measurements of what I needed for driveshaft length when aired up and also when laid out it came out to be 51 inches. Did some checking online and found that a driveshaft out of a ford ranger is 51 inches. I picked one up out of the salvage yard then just needed to pick up a U-joint where one ends ford and the other sides Chevy. I got really lucky cause it turns out the new style ford ranger driveshaft bolts right up to my 8.8 rear out of the explorer

Re: LS1 Bagged 52 Chevy 3100 Build

Sweet deal on the driveshaft! Mine was the same length but I ended up having one custom made after roaming through numerous scrap yards and buying a couple that didn't work. I've got the same six link set up but I hadn't thought of the extra bracing and the drive shaft loop.

Re: LS1 Bagged 52 Chevy 3100 Build

Hey everyone thanks alot for the compliments. Its really nice hearing from everybody. But lately I havent really gotten anything done that is photo/post worthy. I tore everything back apart and I am finishing boxing in the frame and trimming the bottom of my c notches and also finish welding some things. Hope to make some photo worthy progress soon. Next up, Fabricating a sheet metal floor!

Re: LS1 Bagged 52 Chevy 3100 Build

Holy cow its been forever since I last posted any updates. I have been extremely busy. My financee got a permant government job back home. So we had to move again and I started a new job and alot of wedding planning and also house hunting, so the truck kind of got put on the back burner. But since the last update I did get some things accomplished. First thing i got the truck assembled and got it involved in our engagement pictures. Turned out really cool

Re: LS1 Bagged 52 Chevy 3100 Build

After the engagment pictures I tore the truck down to the bare chassis and finished up some welding and flipped it over and finished grinding down the C notches and the bottoms of plates for boxing the frame.

Re: LS1 Bagged 52 Chevy 3100 Build

So after a lot of thought and decision making I finally came to the decision that the ride height was just a little to high so I decided to install my two inch drop spindles. And when I lowered the front ride height two inches it messed up all my alignments in the back. So now I have to completly redo the entire rear suspension. And also when I lowered the rear the bridge over the rear axle would stick up higher then the bed floor. So I decided to redo the axle bridge as well. Plus I was a little worried the orignal one wasnt gonna be strong enough. So this kills two birds with one stone.

Re: LS1 Bagged 52 Chevy 3100 Build

I also made some more transmission tunnel bridges out of 1x1 tubing and had to make the one in the back of the cab to clear the driveshaft. But I finally made it to the sheet metal floor! Im really happy with the way everything turned out and think it looks great after i got it ground down smooth

looks good, congrats on the wedding and pics. I hate redoing stuff, but most of the time it comes out better in the end so its worth it.
