Heat shield for starter wires:
Double E wanted some heat shielding for his starter wires. Car Boss answered the call.

I don't care if I ever see another SBC in anything. I'm almost to that point with the LS engines.

Beatle, take a close look at Diceman's engine. You are looking at a fuel injected, computer controlled, Six. Bet you had to look twice.

Time to show off "Hank"

I think it's time to show off Car Boss's "Hank". Turns out it's a pretty good tow vehicle. Photos shows Hank pulling my truck to the shop for the build.

I'll bet if someone asks him he'll tell you all about this special truck.

Re: 72 GMC Short Step Build

F.I.R.S.T TPI Manifold and ZZ4 Head Mismatch

We ran into a bit of a mismatch with the F.I.R.S.T TPI intake manifold and the aluminum heads on the ZZ4. The ZZ4 heads have a protrusion that interferes with the intake seating properly. Car Boss and I have another friend who owns a machine shop, He machined enough off for the intake to fit properly. So, for those of you contemplating using this intake on a ZZ4, be aware that you'll need to make this modification.

Stainless TPI Fuel Lines

Car Boss spent the day bending up some very nice fuel lines. Watch for the next post and I'll show you how he built the line clamps.

Re: 72 GMC Short Step Build

How to make hardline Line Clamps/Separators
Car Boss sent me a note last week and asked me to buy some stainless hard line clamps/separators so that he could finish plumbing the fuel rails on the TPI. So, I immediately jumped on it and ordered them, in fact they should be here today. But Car Boss wants his stuff "NOW", so he decided to build his own die and produce them himself. So, follow along.

Cool Beans award on making the clamps !!!!!!! Subtle & clean.

and photo four: notched-to-fit channel makes a good (great) simple way to hold up one of the big Whitney punches to keep it from tipping over & smashing fingers & / or toes. I'll never do that again, after seeing this idea.

Re: 72 GMC Short Step Build

Custom Wiring Harness
Double E has been busy behind the scenes building 5 separate wiring harness. Here's a quick peek at some of his under-dash work. I'm sure I'm miss something, but here's a partial list: the Classic Instruments digital interface, circuits for the courtesy lights which we're not there, the door switch circuit which weren't there, and others. He also cleaned up/refurbished the original fuse panel which looks absolutely new. It's great having him on the team!

Re: 72 GMC Short Step Build

Wires and Intake Tease

Here's a little tease of things to come. Do I have great friends or what? I skipped out on the team (which I do too often) to attend a old friends birthday party in the Texas Panhandle Friday night then was invited to hunt pheasant this morning. But back in the shop Double E and Car Boss where hard at it working on the truck, building a mounting bracket for the ECM, routing and fitting wires, and dropping the new intake on. This is starting to look like something.

Bracket Mania!

Car Boss was busy this weekend building brackets. The first was the ECM bracket to hold the computer to the interior firewall. Is this not the best looking polished aluminum bracket that you will never see?

I'll post the coil bracket later this evening.

Wiring Prep
Over the weekend Double E spent some time prepping and measuring for a couple of his five separate wiring harness. I believe this one was for the ECM.

Re: 72 GMC Short Step Build

New Goodmark Core Support installed
Since I was AWOL on Friday and Saturday I decided I owed the guys lunch. So we decided to kill two birds with one stone and take the drive shaft over to the drive shaft specialist and enjoy a gourmet burger. Well, two birds turned into about 5 with stops at a couple of parts places and Harbor Freight. We also, pulled the engine to do the final prep and we installed the new Goodmark core support.
Here's an endorsement for Goodmark. The support fit perfectly. All holes lined up with out a single problem. So if you are searching for a quality replacement for a , this thing fits.......PERIOD! Sort of sound like our liar n chief but in this case it's true. (Please disregard all political statements, the writer must be suffering from a burger binge hangover)
