Re: Winter Beater Build- '66 BBW Custom Short/Fleet with Heat!

My business partner (sister) polished the hubcaps, then I painted the centers.

Mixed oil and wax together and tried it out on the driver side of the hood. Didn't want the wax to set up as hard and gloss up too much when I buffed it off. Gives it a soft shine that brings out the color.

Took the old fog lights off, cleaned up the bumper and grill, and stuck a '66 farm truck tag in place of the rusty tag that came with it.

The column parts are pretty chewed up, so I'll have to swap it out. It won't shift like it is. I've got another column from a 60-63 cab that I hope will work.

Re: Winter Beater Build- '66 BBW Custom Short/Fleet with Heat!

You mixed oil and wax to get that old paint to shine up?
I am guessing you used regular car wax, but what kind of oil?

What a great effect you got with that man, awesome.
I want to do that to the 55 farm truck we have back home.

Yeah, just spray oil/penetrant and carnauba wax- gotta be non-abrasive. Wax dries too fast on old/dried out paint so it doesn't always "soak in" before it starts to harden, then you buff it off- the shine and color will be uneven. The point of wax is to seal the paint pores, dry hard, then you buff the surface of it smooth. The oil just keeps it from drying too fast, and it helps the wax get down into the pores of the paint better so the color is even. It takes more effort to get it all off since it doesn't dry for awhile, but you wanna get 95% off before it dries anyway.

Looking good, John!

If you need column parts, PM me. I've got a few extra cowlings, and I could send you one.

I agree 100%. I own and LOVE my Eastwood flaring tool. It makes a PERFECT flare every time. This is a brake line I did. One of the best tool investments I ever made.

Step slowly away from this truck and get back to work on Goldilocks. This isn't supposed to be a build thread but a "get it running" thread. Your attention to detail is starting to show.

I picked some parts from another column I had and got it working, thanks for the offer though!

Thanks for pointing that out, I gotta get the new drums on it still so I'll sort it out while I'm in there.

Not yet, no free time since Christmas break to work on it plus I've had sinus problems for the last two weeks. Doctor misdiagnosed it as a virus, after a week of being miserable we figured out it was a sinus infection... I'm back to feeling well enough to work on it now, gotta get the carb back together and fix the brake issues next. I did cheat and mess around with 'Locks for awhile today, shoulda been working on this truck instead.

Here's a recent daylight pic.

Everyone has some type of sinus problem this winter, sun what's that, the chesapeake bay has ice I haven't seen that since I was still ridding my bike, it takes a lot for salt water to freeze, rant is over back to the build.

Re: Winter Beater Build- '66 BBW Custom Short/Fleet with Heat!

Installed a rebuild carb and it's running great now. Also fixed the brake return springs and put the front drums on. Just got to do rear axle bearings/seals and adjust/bleed the brakes to have it driveable. Planning on scuffing the interior, shooting it fawn, cleaning up the gauge cluster, and maybe adding a tach if I can find a 6 cylinder tach. Needs new door seals too.

Edit, video of it running is uploading to youtube now. Will post once it's finished.

Those look like a great alternative! Will have to try those out, there's a Honda junk yard about two miles from our shop.

Nah, actually sold the two parts cars and I'm not planning on keeping the red '87 long at all. I'll get 'Locks done before starting back on the white '89.
