The Original one got tossed by by Grandfather I believe due to major issues, I'm not really sure the situation but I got this one

I've got the pretronix kit on my fleetline for about 9 years now works great

Did you try to fit the air cleaner on the carb? If the air cleaner and distributor came off a Chevrolet engine they may not fit a GMC.

From what I have seen, they will interchange. It fits

The truck wants to crank but won't

I've put new Spark plugs in
New Coil
New wires


Could the coil be hooked up wrong? Because I've done it before
I'll try tomorrow

Took out the indicator bulbs to replace with new ones to see if they'll work

Yes I put fuel in it Coral, please no smart responses

I might as well get a new Tail light wiring, because its been spliced etc.. shorts out on the right side and left side works, but looks bad.

Bought another Distributor to replace the one in mine, it came out of a 235 engine. Trying to get it cleaned up..

So was there much rust in the fuel tank? Did you get it installed or are you still using the plastic tank? Just asking for us so we know the fuel supply situation.

Using the Plastic gas tank until the Metal one is cleaned etc
Its getting Gas, I am sure its getting air...Pretty sure it isn't getting Spark. I'll figure it out tomorrow morning

I bought my Air breather/Distributor from "Firetoys" '59 Apache.
Tomorrow I will soak the Distributor in Carb cleaner and paint it Gloss black..
Once I fiddle with the wiring, and get it started. I will see about buying some flexible fuel line to run down the cab to the hard line. The trucks progress it moving slowly but It'll get there

Check the ignition coil primary coil resistance by connecting an ohmmeter between the positive (Black wire) and negative (Green wire) terminals on the coil. The resistance should be 0.4 to 0.6 ohms.

Okay woke up this morning, switched the wires and it cranked right up
Major fuel leaks around the the new inline fuel filter.. I push the choke in and it dies, I am thinking the Timing and tuning is way off. I get my paycheck today so Im going to buy better(smaller) hose for the fuel lines.

Fuel went everywhere when I cranked it up. I wish someone was closer to help me out

I have tuned it a little. I just need to let my local mechanic have a look at it and see if he can get it running better..Because its starting to really really piss me off

dam no kidding if I was there id back u up ive torn my 6 apart numerous times ive got like 5 back up motors set aside to LOL my buddy taught me to listen to the motor and go from there

Well all I know is, I'm pulling it to a Local mechanic and letting them solve all of the issues..Pissed off to the damn max

Headed to O'Reillys to buy smaller hose and some light bulbs

have you purchased the pertronix kit yet? if not I would save some money and buy the kit and try it again. I had so much trouble with points every old car I had was moved to electronic ignition

I don't have the money at the moment to get it. I am short a couple Twenties to get it.
Im just going to back away from it..It is always something with this truck

Don't get to discouraged.
You got it to start and that's 90% of it right there. Getting it running smoothly shouldn't be that bad now.

You can isolate the circuit by running a jump from the positive battery terminal directly to the hot side of the coil (side that does not go to the distributor). Starter circuit will turn it over to get started. If it runs fine and does not quit start looking for loose bad wires. If still dies then in the coil/distributor - Orrie's wise words


Well it is raining today so I am not going to be able to work on the truck. I am planning to buy a smaller fuel hose to put on the Hard lines to stop the leaks... When I fix that, I am going to try to get it running to pull over to my mechanic(across the street) Hopefully he can fix all of the issues

Temp Gauge, well its running over the line a hair? could it be because of the new Temp sending unit?

It runs but I can literally adjust the timing while its running..I need to get a rachet to it and tighten it down real good

i had mid 80s 250 hei in my chevyII 194 for years
anyone know if the distributors interchange into the 235?

I used the distributor on my 235 my dad did the same thing back in the days no problem just have to use a different hold down clamp
