Re: 1965 C10 Long Bed
Why is porterbuilts step notch $500? That seems way over priced.

Re: 1965 C10 Long Bed
There is a lot too the PB Step Notch. It is more than just a few pcs of steel you have to weld together. Theirs is a complete BOLT IN set up.

For me, since I like to fab stuff and have most of the tools I need, I would just buy some 3/16"-1/4" plate at a scrap yard and make up my own...

Re: 1965 C10 Long Bed
I definitly have a welder brother lol. And yes im looking for the notch with the bends for around $150. I have one now that does not have the bends and can be used with more fab work making it fit. However, I would rather use the extra work somewhere else on my truck.
Just FYI for anyone. The pancake is a 2 inch pancake. After tacked back together. The measurement is 1-7/8 inch. So it should be close enough for a first timer on pancaking . And man oh man was I itchy after 3 cut off wheels cutting it out hahah.

Re: 1965 C10 Long Bed
Today I welded up a little more of the crossmember and cleaned up some of the brake parts and painted them.
If any of you guys have metal parts you want cleaned to tje metal. Soak it in white vinegar for a few days. Be warned tho. If you soak smaller parts such as E clips and thin washers. It will eat them completely away. Such as the small washer and E clip that holds the E brake level to the brake shoe. After you get the parts out of the vinegar. Clean them with soap and water as soon as possible and wire brush then dry them. Then paint. By the way. The vinegar freed up the seized brake adjuster also. It was stuck big time and I was thinking I may have to find new ones. However it ate all the rust from the thread and it screwed right apart fairly easy.

Re: 1965 C10 Long Bed
I keep a bucket of vinegar (case bought at Costco) for derusting. Toss in parts, take out a few days later. Easy, cheap, works.

Re: 1965 C10 Long Bed
Been to hot and raining since I posted last. Did a little gringing yesterday on the crossmember. Removed one of the rear springs and installed my new vice on my fab table. Going to buy a shop fan this payday to help with the heat so I might be able to hack it.

Re: 1965 C10 Long Bed
Well here is a video update on youtube of how she sits right now. Went out today and picked up a few things. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWTZ...e_gdata_player
1. A shop fan that moves some air. Now im in the cool. 2. I also picked up some discs for the grinder. Lors knows we cant pass up on those being in stock at the house. 3. 4 used tires that I will use to mock up my suspension. Then it will be white walls afterwards. 4. 3 pieces of 3/16 plate for the lower control arms and trailing arm crossmber. Images of todays material.

Re: 1965 C10 Long Bed
Today a little more progress. Pulled the rear end out to the driveway and pressure washed it a bit.
Removed the trailing arms and other axel, brakes and drum. Put all parts into vinegar to clean them up real well.
