That stuff looks pretty to me. Are you sure you should have removed the steering stops though?

Yes it's only limited by the steering box now, look how far it turns without the tie rod hooked up:

Re: $3,000 driver build

I'm gonna go get this thing registered tomorrow, messed up seat, no mirrors, no side markers. Instead of dealing with that stuff I'm thinking about a back half and DM, wtf.

Grumby ready to hit the streets, (almost):

Does your state require all vehicles to be inspected before being registered?

Re: $3,000 driver build

I could be wrong maybe it depends on certain things, but I don't think so. I've registered probably 15 vehicles here over the years, I've never taken one in for them to look at. I don't even have to pass smog here.

Sweet Kansas is the same way, it's great for guys like us that like to restore vehicles, the state doesn't care as long as they get their money and that's the way it should be!

I agree Brian, however they get it from all angles! They inspect some, and charge. The ones they don't inspect, they just pull over and give tickets, MORE MONEY!!! IMO it's a scam anyway you look at it.

Thanks for the comments guys! I just went to add the truck to my insurance, and they won't insure a 72!!! They only go back to 1974. Damn, now I gotta switch to a different company, sounds like I'll be going to Progressive, it only added $35/month to my insurance so I guess that's a plus.

Maybe I'll go to the fabric store today, find me some foam and some kind of cover I can rig up, make the seat halfway decent for now. Gotta find me some mirrors too.

Nice truck! I love the paint on it. You've done some cool stuff so far. I especially like the track bar. I'll be following along.

Re: $3,000 driver build

Thanks Duane I appreciate that, the tracbar works excellent. The side to side shift from full lift to aired out is under 1/4", closer to an 1/8". I can live with that.

Re: $3,000 driver build

I never looked under the doors. Considering how the rockers looked, I assumed the bottom of the doors looked the same. I was wrong they look pretty damn good to me:

Few more, all I've done is buff it out, half-assed:

I'm gonna start doing some more searching, but, what I'd like to do is change out my steering box. I'm not opposed to adding power steering, but I would much rather just swap the box. (easier, cheaper, and quicker to do) BUT, my question is, is there a factory manual box that will give me easier steering than what I have now? That I can find at the pic n pull down the street?

Re: $3,000 driver build

Personally I would just swap to power steering. You can probably find a box and pump pretty cheap and you will not regret it. I have driven these trucks both ways and if you want to improve your steering there is no substitute. If you are concerned with cost I would just put it off until you finish everything else because it is not an invasive change. Im sure there will be various opinions on this.

Re: $3,000 driver build

I agree with Boynton. If you can live with it, just roll on for a bit. But power steering is the wat to go in my book.

Re: $3,000 driver build

I don't mind adding a pump, or the brackets. I'm mostly turned off by the fact I'd have to change my crank pulley to a 2-groove, right?

Well there's the deciding factor for me, I'm not in the mood to pull that at this time, lol.

Gonna hold off and deal with it.

Re: $3,000 driver build

I've seen people, not this people , who put a double pulley on the water pump and run the p/s off of that pulley. Seems to me that it would have more potential for slipping, but like I said, I've seen it in action.

Re: $3,000 driver build

Interesting. But, DON'T TEMP ME WITH MEDIOCRE METHODS!!!! I'll justify and do em!

LOL just kiddin, I'd run it off the crank but I'm gonna wait though. Not something I NEED to do right now. The needs are more like mirrors and a better seat. Gonna try my best to get it insured and registered today if I can figure out a way to sneak out of work.
