Rear wheel offset is looking tight on the outside. More to come.

Re: Simple '49 Truck

So the rear is tight. Looking at a couple options to fix it. Worst case a couple rear wheels will be for sale.

Thanks fellas. Rear wheel solution = grind off the centers and move them forward an inch.

Re: Simple '49 Truck

Making good progress, the truck is now back at my place for wiring and to get the engine running. Sheet metal is more or less all on. There is a hood fitment issue I’m working through now but it’s way closer than it was last week. I have about an 1/8th gap on the driver’s side hood-to-fender line but more like 3/8th on the passenger side. I think it’s play in the hood support assemblies and worst case I’ll have to kick the radiator support over.

I was able to get the floor covered last night with Raptor Liner and once it’s had a day or two to setup nicely I’ll be starting the wiring. Also got the front speakers located in the kick panels.

Does anyone know where to get a window regulator spring? The big one pictured not the little one that goes behind the crank.

Re: Simple '49 Truck

I gotta say that a very large portion of all that work is Bruce, not me. i just made sure all parts were thought out and available when needed. now that it's back home. sleep is limited.

Not sure the actual color of red. it looks more like a rust in real life than what shows up in those photos.

Re: Simple '49 Truck

Why do you think you need a new spring? Raptor liner looks awesome! I'm going to do the same. Would you mind getting some box to cab measurements for me if you have a chance? Have any new plans for the rear wheels seeing that they were too wide?

Re: Simple '49 Truck

Henney,
Everything looks great. Was the Raptor bed liner applied by roller or by spray gun? I assume one of those schutz type guns(?). Does one of those take a huge amount more volume of air than a conventional automotive spray gun or HPLV gun?

Last, did you strip to bare metal (apologies if it's been mentioned and I missed it) and primer it or put it over bare or un-prepped old paint?

Re: Simple '49 Truck

Not to hijack here, truck is looking mighty nice. I just seen eastwood offers a sound deadner/ rust inhibitor coating that requires no primers and can withstand extreme heat. its like 200 for the gallon but I think it's worth a try considering bedliner brands are near 100 gallon, then the sound deadner adds about that, plus the time putting them on.

Re: Simple '49 Truck

Sid,
I need a new spring because the window regulator I have doesn’t have one. The driver’s side has one and the passengers is missing. I think i found one for a '38 chevy car that will work. I’ll try to remember to get dimensions tonight.
The wheels are steel so we’re going to cut out the center move it forward an inch and weld it back in. It’s the cheapest, quickest fix so figured we’d start there. If it doesn’t work hopefully I can sell them and will have to order new ones.

Dan,
I sprayed in the liner with the gun that comes with the kit. Bought it off Amazon for cheap. I just have a little pancake compressor at the house and it ran the entire time but kept up. I had the gun set at around 50psi. The cab was sand blasted and primed before getting painted so I had a clean surface to start with.

99,
Are you talking about lizard skin? If so I considered using it but just couldn’t get myself to pull the trigger. They have both a thermal and acoustic mix and using both of them is spendy.

Nice work! Quick question, Did you have to modify the firewall to clear the 6.0?
Thanks

Re: Simple '49 Truck

We put in a tunnel to clear the tranny and a small notch for the driver side fuel rail. Probably could have gotten by without the notch.

Re: Simple '49 Truck

Got a bunch of work done over the weekend but not a whole lot of pictures to show for it. Big thank you to Chizzler for helping me figure out the hood/fender alignment. I struggled for days trying to get that but it looks great now.

Grill is in, exhaust is complete, engine fired over the weekend and went smooth. My wife wasn’t super impressed by the Thrushers but I was. Dove into bleeding the breaks and made decent headway. Found and fixed all the leaks. Got the first pass at bleeding done but the pedal never did harden up. I’ll be working on getting the body wiring complete this week.

If I could figure out how to upload video I'd post the engine starting.

Make sure the master has no air, Had that on my Jeep found a little bubble.
Congrats on the engine, it's exciting to hear them with exhaust for the first time.

Re: Simple '49 Truck

congrats on the progress. Every time my MC wasn't bled, it wouldn't even let fluid out to the calipers. I'd take the MC off bench bleed it and instantly have fluid to the lines. Mine usually hardened up pretty quick. Can't wait to hear the engine.

Most guys usually just upload the video to youtube (have to create and account) then just post the link here. Use to be able to embed the whole video here, but seams like that doesn't work anymore.

Re: Simple '49 Truck

Wasn't ever able to figure out the video which sucks because now I have a new one of the first time driving. Pretty excited to say she left the garage for the first time under her own power. It went well, probably didn’t get above 20 and I know it didn’t leave 2nd but everything felt good. I did screw up and not have enough tranny fluid so it got interesting for a second. 7 qts later and we were moving.

Brakes worked out well which have been a pain over the last couple weeks. Bleeding them wasn’t fun, there’s a small leak from the proportioning valve, and the pedal throw might have to get modified. Under emergency braking the brake arm will crash into the headers before bottoming out the master cylinder.

My heater core also blew last night. It was the original core and had been working but I guess she decided it wasn’t meant to be. I’ll be getting a new re-pop’d one because the heater, in my opinion, is one of the cooler features of the truck.

All of the electrical is complete and I’ve moved onto the stereo. Will be running an alpine deck and amp with a JL 12” sub and component speakers. Should sound pretty good. I also ordered up RAMmat yesterday which after some pretty good research seemed to fit my goal and budget nicely.
I also got a 12V electric wiper motor installed. Went with the Newport unit which just like everyone says bolts directly into place and was super simple. I had it in, wired, and running in under an hour.

This week’s moving to getting the windshield and rear glass in. finish out the door windows and deadbolt locks. And then finish up the stereo. I also gotta get my rear wheels back from Bruce.

Re: Simple '49 Truck

congrats, fastest painted truck build iv seen! yeah the OG heaters are def cool, but are very troublesome. There are always something on a build that will fight or haunt you. I guess some more than others. You'll get em all ironed out.
