Re: In memory of Tom Bowlin: the little green truck build
YUP!!
These are not the best pics, but later this weekend I'm going to try to find a good spot to take some real nice photos. The paint turned out great with only a couple little mistakes. Overall I am super happy with the results!

Re: In memory of Tom Bowlin: the little green truck build
So the paint I used was OMNI, which is a lower level product of PPG. I probably won't ever use it again because there is very little pigment. The dark green was very hard to get good coverage and the light metallic mottled in certain spots and the metallic doesn't really "pop". It is good driver quality paint, which is what I was going for, but should never be used if you want to impress someone with your paint job.
I actually have to re-spray the hood again because it is way too mottled up close.

Sure looks good from here! That's a bummer to hear about the omni. I was planning on using that for my upcoming spray job. Any idea what you would use next time?

I'm not sure what I'll use next. Maybe just PPG's premium line, whatever it is called. Hopefully I'm not painting anything else for awhile. I'm tired. Haha.

What little experience I've had with Nason paint was good. I'm not a painter but the few I know say it's decent.

Re: In memory of Tom Bowlin: the little green truck build
What did you use for double sided foam tape for the trim?

Re: In memory of Tom Bowlin: the little green truck build
All the trim on the bed is from Classic Industries and came with tape (cheap stuff I'm sure) already attached. The trim is flimsy like every other reproduction part these days and it doesn't take much to tweak them.
I used a different tape to put the original trim back on the doors and I'll try and get the name of it for you.

Re: In memory of Tom Bowlin: the little green truck build
Thanks! All I can find is the normal 3m stuff that's like a 1/16" thick. And being the trim is probably over 1/8" deep, I would think it needs thicker tape.

Re: In memory of Tom Bowlin: the little green truck build
That's probably the best color combination you could get, I had not looked in on this thread for quite awhile and as much as i loved that truck in brown it looks even better now. I'm sure your friend Tom would have loved it too. Anyways just wanted to say it looks awesome, I'd really like for it to be in my garage.

I think Tom would've approved too. It has all the gear underneath that he loved so much and the green body was just too straight and rust free to pass up. This summer his wife and I will drive the truck to the coast to spread his ashes. This weekend I will be showing her the truck for the first time since the two trucks became one. I hope she like it too….

Re: In memory of Tom Bowlin: the little green truck build
Been awhile...but, not much new progress. I am working on installing a one piece back window and then tinting side and rear windows. I also want to get a tonneau cover painted and installed before the winter hits.
This past weekend I went to Billetproof's vintage drags in Toutle, WA with my girlfriend and a buddy. What a blast!! I took some pics of our little camping spot:

Re: In memory of Tom Bowlin: the little green truck build
Do love this truck. So a while ago we were talking about paint products. In particular you expressed your disappointment with the omni base. After doing a bunch of research I found almost no positive reviews on the omni base. What I did find that seems like the perfect middle ground is Wanda paint. Almost exclusively positive reviews and still a reasonable price tag. Although about $100 more a gallon than the omni.
Ao I'm going to be using southern polyurethane for my epoxy primer, 2k primer, and clear and use the Wanda for my red and white base colors.

I love the green combo much better than the brown, but the truck is soooo goood no matter which it had.
