@ Scott2

Thanks, that's the way I did get also all the information I need(ed).

This week bought a new welder, tried a lot of (test) welds to get the settings right, first welds to the cab:

Left cab corner is also in, need to trim the door gap later.

Fuel filler patch is in.

Great pics, love the progress and nice work! I just cut open the right side cab corner last night and started looking at the gas filler hole as well! Can you expand on your comment about the cab corner and door gap and maybe post a pic? I'd like to know what I'm heading into.

Now that you've done the corner is there anything you'd do different next time?

Re: 1949 AD truck 'Chevy-49'

You have done alot of metal repair already, looking good..

I know the feeling, I had all the same rotted spots as you did on my truck.

I ended up making most of my pieces rather than buying new patch panels (lack of cash ) new patches make the time cut in half.

Nice progress so far will be watching..

The right rear cab panel was not as bad as the left side, the patch panel are not perfect, see pictures.
I will put on the doors first and trim the patch panels to fit the doors.

Same problems with the cowl panels. I did not weld the with the left and right outer cowl panels in yet. (see post 47)

I had a similar problem with my replacement panels. Nothing like a pie cut to make things fit.

Your truck is looking great! You've been making some good progress.
I closed the cowl vents on mine also. I think it makes a cleaner look.

Re: 1949 AD truck 'Chevy-49'

Had a short break (vacation), this weekend started to make a patch for the left top cowl and welded it in.
Have to drill some new holes tonight en test fit the mirror bracket.

Fixed the door gap on the bottom rear corner of the door. I'm Happy how it turned out.

Re: 1949 AD truck 'Chevy-49'

Had to do something else, because the left door is a real struggle to set right.
Drilled some holes for de mirror brackets.

Also, bought another door, need the inside skin to fix the 'speaker' holes.

Re: 1949 AD truck 'Chevy-49'

The left door is in as good as its gets, did modify the new hinges.
Drilled new holes in the lower hinge and shorten the upper hinge.

As I remember the door did always hit the rear cab panel, as shown on the picture.

So time to cut the rear cab panel, drill out the spot welds, remove rust between the panels.

Re: 1949 AD truck 'Chevy-49'

Any tips how to remove bottom of the inside door?

Is the lip spot welded, or just bend ?

Grind the lip off and make / weld a new one in.

My outer skin seems OK and will not be replaced.

Re: 1949 AD truck 'Chevy-49'

Chevy 49,

The truck is looking good. The bottom lip on the door is just bent. I replaced the inner and outer skins on one of my doors, so I just ground the bottom lip off. I have to get back to my other door, but I'm off on other tangents at the moment.

Good luck and keep up the good work!

The lip is not welded, just bend as Tikal48 mentioned (thanks Tikal48) but in my case the lip too much rusted to use again.

I did ground the edge off and will try to weld the seams together.

I did also buy a damping material (Dynamat) would it be a good idea to put inside of the doors right now?

Bottom is open for easy access....

What do you think? ....

Left door bottom patch is ready to weld in.

Right door speaker hole patch is also ready to weld in.

Right door bottom patch is almost ready, thinking about pressing a recces in.
