Nothing overly picture worthy but I did get a lot done!

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Well I didn't get much done last week. Doc appointment Wednesday, helping the wife prepare for our weekend trip to the beach Thursday, left for the beach Friday after work, then Saturday and Sunday at the beach. Finally got back to it today. I think by the end of tomorrow everything forward of the bed should be prime ready. Then I'm going to start working on finishing off the bed. Going out of town again this weekend to camp and ride the quads at the dunes. So my fingers are crossed to have the whole truck ready for primer by the end of next week. Primer next weekend? Maybe. We'll see.

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Ok so I think at this point everything forward of the bed is about 90% prime ready. Mostly I just need to pull it back outside and give it a good bath, blow dry, and go over it once more with 180 grit on the da once more. Tomorrow I'll give the front end a good nother once over. Then I'll work on patching up and finishing up the bed.

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Coming along nice. One of these days were going to load up the ATVs and head to the dunes in Oregon. We were at St. Antony, Idaho dunes a few weeks ago and Polaris was there giving demo rides in the new RZR 1000 Turbo model. I took my turn and was impressed with the 144 hp in a two seater but the $24k price tag scared me away.

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Nice man! I bet they are fun, but same here on the scary price tag! The crazy part to me is that guys actually buy them, and then dump tons of money into them! I don't know how they afford it!

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Patch work is all done on the bed. I wish it would have came out better but it's ok for my first go at it. It will look fine and last forever with a little filler on it! Other than that it's looking like next week some time I'll be priming. I'm down to just finding little stuff to do and walking around it trying to find more pre prime stuff that needs done. Fingers crossed that by the end of the weekend (I'm also working both days this weekend...) it will be totally prime ready. Basically all I need to do is push it back outside, wash it real good, and then go over the whole thing again with 80 grit on the da. After that I still just need to plastic off the garage to form a spray booth and pick up a bunch of lights.

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Not really. Hasn't been a problem as of yet.

Well it's ready for primer finally! Just have to still convert my garage to a spray booth and give it a rub down with some wax and grease remover. Should be able to pull the trigger early next week!

Pics.

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Should look good. Little tip for the patches. Try to avoid straight lines with patches. They will pull in the same direction and cause more distortion than a round patch. Just my 2 cents.

I did learn that Sadly... At the time I was just thinking I didn't know how to cut big circles with any sense of efficiency. Now I know for next time, just make them circles!

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

That was a LOT of work to get stripped! The patch looks like it turned out well, and like you said a little filler and nobody will know. Good luck with the priming.

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

A little progress today. Started masking and then ran out of my good tape... I'll get more tomorrow. Then I started hanging plastic and re arranged how I had my doors hanging so I could paint both sides. Still hoping for primer this week but we'll see.

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

it has always amazed me how much work goes into the project before the paint. then the actual painting is just a small fraction. i think i spent more time cleaning my guns when i did the two tone on my 95, than i did mixing and spraying the paint put together.

looks like you're heading in the right direction, good work! a good mask job saves a lot of work later on.

Re: 1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

More masking done today .If all goes to plan, I'll finish masking and finish hanging plastic tomorrow Wednesday I'll get my lights and compressor set up and dialed in, and Thursday spray primer.
