Little late to the party, but man what a sweet truck. Skip over the ls and swap in a 6.6 dmax with an Allison and burn the rubber off it

Re: HELP! I'm having second thoughts on current set up.
Right now your truck would be a "one of a kind" standout at any car show. Modified it would be one of many bellybutton modified trucks at any car show.
I would leave it as-is, but its your truck. My bet is that it gets more looks in its current configuration than it will cut up and modified. Sell it to me before you change it...Ha

Re: HELP! I'm having second thoughts on current set up.
Throttle linkage. Went with the lokar setup. Cost $52, but it's well worth it. Alot easier to setup than the belcrank setup that comes with the offenhauser intake.
Pic 2 shows the carb setup. Has to use a 1 inch spacer to clear the carb linkage. 1/2" would of worked but they couldn't get it next day. So 1 inch it was. Custom mounting bracket off the bottom holes on the intake.

Pics 1 and 2 show the clearances on the header. Pic 2 if you look close you will see how I modified the z bar for the clutch.
Pic 3 shows were i tied into the thermostat housing for the water heated intake.

That's what everybody keeps telling me. If more talk like this I may have to leave it as it. I'm easily influenced. L.

Yep, I've noticed this over the years. That's the issue and mainly why I'd feel guilty doing it. I think lite reversible nods are acceptable though.

Re: HELP! I'm having second thoughts on current set up.
Someone else also suggested this would be the best modification to make it more drivable.

Lol. Define younger crowds. Lol. Some say that I'm in that crowd others say I'm too old. Middle age has its perks. Lol.

Re: HELP! I'm having second thoughts on current set up.
Yeah that's why your statement about "younger crowds" not giving your truck attention struck me so funny. I'm 43 and I know that many of the guys building trucks in the current style are my age or older. When I was looking for a truck I wanted one as original as possible and the plan was to lower it and put bigger wheels on it. The more time I spent looking at these trucks the more I began to appreciate the original styling as a throwback to a simpler time.

Re: HELP! I'm having second thoughts on current set up.
I love all the varieties of setups, I think that is one of the best part of old cars and trucks is seeing the awesome innovations, styling, and uniqueness of what people create. I would say do what ever you want, its your truck do what makes you happy with it. I put an LS motor in our 68, but it did not have a motor/ tranny when we bought it so it was easy to decide with that. But I love the LS setup, the truck has great power and is very dependable. Plus it gets lot of attention when you open the hood, it looks stock from the outside.

I gave grown to like the little six. Easy to work on and so simple. Plus it's so original I think it would be a crime to do anything that couldn't be reversed to be able to bring it back to original. Now I'm debating even bolt ons cuz it runs so dam good. Just have to get in ol truck mode. Lol I'm do something but not too much. Did the HEI conversion already.

Thanks. Not easy to work duals in(on the inline atleast) being this low and still lay it down on the ground.

How low is yours. I have a 3/5 drop on mine. Think I'll have issues too?

Re: HELP! I'm having second thoughts on current set up.
Really low.....lol
As far as yours, hows the exhaust now? Does it hang below the frame? If you want it tucked up under the frame it becomes more of a challenge.

Re: HELP! I'm having second thoughts on current set up.
Isn't that true! But... Yours in NOT molested. And it doesn't sound like any changes you'd make would be true molestation. I like that you're thinking "reversible" mods. I like the suggestion above to go with a more recent auto OD trans. The 3OTT can be fun from a nostalgic point of view, but it can become a little cumbersome and clunky for more convenient everyday driving. I'd choose a 200-4r, personally. I like the ratios better than the 700r4 and with even a healthy six it'll last a long, long time. That's a reversible mod to me. Heck, I wouldn't even lower that thing, as the stance really speaks to its original period. Gotta admit, though, that a mild drop with lowering coils is pretty darned reversible. Then... Drive the heck out of that thing!

That certainly does not apply to everyone. I'm 52 and have always been into customs. Do I like a clean stock looking truck, sure as long as it's slammed

Re: HELP! I'm having second thoughts on current set up.
"It's your truck, do what you want!" But, didn't I see you already have a big block 70? I was faced with a similar dilemma, so what did I do? I bought another 72 so I could go ahead and soup up "Sally" my first 72...So now I have one "Sally" for drag strips and shows, and "Belle" for daily driving and turning heads...Like the women they're named after, they both take all my money and command all my attentions! Leave that stepper alone, it's a dying breed! Lets see that 70...
