Re: 67-72 Suburban OE seats

Also I am wondering if anyone has a source for an led light kit for these trucks? I have seen where you can buy the lights individual just wondering if there is a kit out there?

Re: 67-72 Suburban OE seats

Not sure if this will even be seen or not (older thread). Is a full width second row bench the same as a front bench seat? Obviously the mounting brackets are different. I'm just talking about the seat itself minus brackets.

Mark
the bottom frames are different making the brackets not interchangeable

Re: 67-72 Suburban OE seats

Ok that's interesting. Thanks ... I should have known just to ask you. You have the burbs and panels figured inside and out ... Thanks!

But my guess is that if I have an extra front burb bench seat cover it would also fit the wide second bench unless the frame differences are more than how the brackets attach at the bottom.

I would think the covers interchange. The bracket mounting is the only difference I have noticed.

Re: 67-72 Suburban OE seats

Question - are these homemade seats, or from something else?

My rig came with all three seats in it. Front seat is a-ok.

Mid row uses the stock front bolt holes (nuts on underside) but rear ones just go through plywood. Third row seat goes through plywood as well.

It appears these brackets are different from what everyone else has got... I know the plates that are welded on look wrong, even though they work and use all the original holes..

What are these from? Upholstery pattern doesn't match my old front seat, and the arm rests are blocks of wood that have been upholstered...?

Thoughts?

I'd rather not have to find two used benches, people want a mint for them.

Re: 67-72 Suburban OE seats

The seats kinda look correct but with home made brackets on them. Would need to see straight on shot of the bottom of the seat to see if the correct mounting holes are in the frame. Might be just a simple bracket change to get them right. 2nd row brackets are not too costly but 3rd row can add up quick. I think I still have a couple sets of 2nd row on the parts board for sale if you end up needing some. here is a general reference pic for the bracket attachment.

Re: 67-72 Suburban OE seats

The rear anchor bolts on wood should be using steel cross beams with welded nut. I think I posted a picture of one of them, you should be able to see it looking in the rear wheel well.

I started destructively looking into it, this looks like threaded black pipe for support with plywood, and something slightly thinner bent and welded directly to the rigid pipe. Home made? Not a bad job all in all, other than the welds kind of suck.

Thinking I might need to find a new set of seats, or re-weld these for the time being.

So Richard let me know what you've got and I'll probably take them. Shipping across the US is probably crappy though.

I found that picture, don't have it. I can make that easy enough, finding seats seems to be harder. Or just re-use these

Looking at those pics I think the entire seat is home made but I could be wrong.

Re: 67-72 Suburban OE seats

Hey folks, can someone tell me if the second seat brackets are different if the Suburban had dual tanks?

Re: 67-72 Suburban OE seats

Do you have a SPID showing the auxiliary tank?

Knowing that it was a common accessory installed by the dealer I would suspect the seat bracket condition would depend on the manufacture of the tank.

Other people have shown pictures of their 'under the middle seat' gas tank. I don't remember anything particular with the installation but I might suggest searching this forum.

That’s the problem...I don’t have any. I purchased a Burb and the seats weren’t installed. I asked the seller for the front brackets like the ones shown on page 1 of this thread and he doesn’t remember having those brackets. He is speculating it may be because there was a tank in the second row. All that being said, I’m trying to find out what should be there so I can get my seats mounted up

ah ok I read it wrong. If the tank is no longer there you should just need the standard 2nd row brackets like these. I think i still have a couple sets listed on the for sale board as well.

Thanks for the info. I’m trying to work with the seller so I don’t HAVE to purchase new brackets. I may buy yours and send the seller the bill if he can’t get his hands on them.

Re: 67-72 Suburban OE seats

So it turns out there is a different bracket if the truck had an auxiliary tank (see attached). If anyone has any leads for the other kind in the parts board let me know.

SO are you leaving the aux tank under the seat?

I brought one of my ads to the top in the classified if you need it

Son: Dad what is this big metal box under my seat?

Dad: Turns around while driving. That's a gas tank kiddo.

So what’s the actual length of the short 2nd Row? I couldn’t read the numbers on the diagram posted.

Re: 67-72 Suburban OE seats

My apologies if this is covered, I scanned and could not find the answer directly: will a truck bench seat fit work for the front bench in a 1972 suburban? I understand the upholstery will not cover the back, but is the rest the same? Will I need to find suburban brackets and slides or did the truck and suburban use the same? I have swivel bucket seats out of a Monte Carlo and I am thinking of using those as a second or third row and have them turn inwards...but I need to find a bench for the front!
