Okay, I'll be working on the logo this weekend. Can't promise to have it finished, but I'll try! Have we come up with a name for this thing yet? Not that it's terribly important, but...

Those trikes were neat. Me and my wife sat and talked with Ed at a show quite a few years back. Seemed like a great guy, really held a grudge against Mattel/Monogram though. At first I tried to get him to sign a packaged Hot Wheels Beatnik Bandit, he wouldn't do it. Did draw me a Rat Fink and sign it "Sorry no Hot Wheels" . Mattel ripped off most of thier designs and still do to this day.
The red car behind the Futurian is Roths' Road Agent. Come on, I made the avatar an easy one. The Paddy Wagon.

Here's what I'm talking about. Old school. wrong side of the tracks look. From the Nov. 2003 Classic Trucks mag. This is a computer generated concept of a '46 Chevy.

No problem. When I saw that picture I was like, "That's it. That's exactly what I want." That's the look I've been thinking about for a while. It''ll have to have a 292 straight six with probably 3 one barrels, or maybe some Webber side draft carbs (that would be nice). Hardly any chrome. Plain interior, no AC, manual tranny. Probably an upgrade to a T-56 six speed with an old 4 speed shifter and knob. Sounds like a plan (and money) to me. I could opt for my M-20 tranny instead of the T-56. Just need some extra gears to bang through, along with overdrive.

Yep, that's the look, only fast-forward to our body style. I'm gonna go ahead with a flame paint job, but the flames will be 50's style. I like the red wheels, and that is what I will be putting on mine, unless I go with apple green, or yellow. No whitewalls, tho. Just black. I don't even want white letters.
Know what? The whitewalls intrigue me.....I mean, our trucks had white walls or black walls, when new. White walls would be old skool, wouldn't they? I don't mean wide whites....I think the width of the white wall should be in keeping with the era of the vehicle. With one or two exceptions, all white walls in '61, were approximately 2 and 1/4 inches wide. In '62, narrow whitewalls became the style. I think Corvette and/or T-Bird began the narrow style in '61. Somebody else may remember better than me, about which car started the narrow style...well, in addition to the show cars on the circuit in '61.

You see the orange truck in my avatar? We had a bunch of paint left over, so we used it.
First, we applied the basecoat just like the truck. Then we put on the clearcoat mixed with matte agent. It's all PPG products. The people at the paint store will know about the flattener for the clear. Other than the flattener, it's just like a normal base/clear paintjob. You mix the flattener in differing amount to get the gloss level you want. I started at 10% like PPG recomended and kept upping it on each successive coat. By the time I got up to 50% dilution, I was out of stuff, so I had to stop. After a few days, it was still too shiny, so I took a scotchbrite to it. It's 5 years old now, and still looks as good as day 1. The beauty of doing it this way and not using primer, is this lasts in sunlight and doesn't let water get through to rust it out.

A couple ways of adding life to primer, or a way to get the primer look (that I have been told) are to (1) add clear coat to primer, or (2) add a flattener to black paint. A friend of mine, into street rods, says that there is an IH (International Harvester) implement black that has a low sheen to it, as opposed to a shine.
As for the exhaust routing, my exhaust pipe tips exit in front of the rear tires. The mufflers are positioned between the rockers and the frame rails. I want to extend my tailpipes all the way to the rear, dumping toward the pavement, behind the back bumper.

I am currently building a truck that is going to be a rat rod. It's a 68 that's gonna be black with flat clear and have red 16 inch steelies. Also airride, just not sure when.

Hey guys...don't mean to offend...but thinking "Rat Rod" LOOK without the power for my 68....not really interested in the power...I just want to get a mean look for my ride.
I have a step. want to keep the stock height, Black primer the whole thing and some chrome here and there. Red Rallys would look cool too. Anyone already have this look going???? Thanks guys -Roger

I love those old hot rod looking trucks. I want to build an old school hot rod/rat rod 67-72 pickup.
