Great pictures of family trucks there. This one has been shown elsewhere, but what the heck. I might have others but not on the computer. This picture is getting old, 32 years. That truck stop is long gone now

My Suburban at the top of Bull Gap in the Huron National Forest in the mid-90's. Don't remember the dude's names that were standing in front of it or why I was so far away from it taking a picture. That was Bull Gap. The chaos was typically at the bottom of the hill.

We used to have a place that looked similar to that called the sand pits. An old quarry I think for material for concrete. Full of houses now. Did you have the sport stripes on your hood or just a hood that was different than body color? It looks like it matches the side accent panel, so I thought it might be that option.

And I would have happily snapped that rig up from you when you were done with it.

Is it possible to rename this thread "vintage pictures" like the original thread, rather than vintage trucks? Most of the site is about vintage trucks. But this is about old pictures of these trucks when they were new, which has its own cool factor. And there are some very cool period photographs in here. Even where SKT and Wikid61 make us play squarebody Where's Waldo, haha.

This was a sand hill in the middle of the Huron National forest that evolved from a smaller gathering of people trying to just get up the hill with motorcycles, trucks, and buggies into a major party spot in the mid-90's where way too many people were partying in the middle of the woods and racing up the sand hill as it had become more eroded. I spent several holiday weekends up there racing my CR500 up the hill. Eventually, fights, people getting hurt, and ambulances stuck in the sand lead to the DNR not allowing alcohol and then it quieted right down. Nowadays, it seems this type of activity has been replaced by the mud bog here in MI.

Here's a pic of the bottom of the hill mid-day on a holiday weekend with the vantage point of me standing on top of my suburban.

There's a square in there somewhere which I'm sure is why I took the picture

Oh, and no sport stripe on the Burby hood. It either didn't have a hood or it was bent when I got it so was lucky to find one that at least complimented it from a junkyard back when you could find that sort of stuff. Drug the suburban out of a backyard without and engine for $300. It lost it's roof later in life.

Thanks SKT. In the first picture, my eye went directly to the squares on the lower left. Very cool picture. I have been through that border crossing dozens of times and did not realize that the building spanning the crossing has been there for so long. In the second picture, my eye went to the 71 or 72 Cutlass convertible pulling out. I grew up driving a 70 that my folks still have and my first car was a 71 hardtop. I really like seeing these old pictures. Thanks for posting.

I sold that '84 to a friend's brother who drove it for years. I loved that truck.

Here are some other pictures of it. First is how it looked when I first got it. Actually, the small used car lot I got it from also had a body shop. The original owner had Doeskin Tan painted on the side like factory 2-tone. That paint was chalky plus I wanted it solid color, so he gave me a deal on an overall paint job. I bought all new GM trim for it. It also had dumbo mirrors and I changed to N.O.S. Camper/towing mirrors. Also had him remove the tailgate trim. This was a work truck and the last thing it needed was a big brushed aluminum panel across a void waiting for it's first ding

I had my buddy letter and pinstripe it, as well as do a desert scene mural on the tailgate where the trim was. This picture is, obviously, on a jobsite. The red '87 K20 was my buddy's who worked for me

It depends on the rig you buy ~ I tend to buy base model fleet spec. rigs so they're never very high off the ground and easy to get into and out of .
