Re: 1966 GMC K10 Suburban Project

Ol Blue K20, cwcarpenter98, thanks for comments and question. The parts cleaned in media blaster with garnet grit 120, also available in other grades. The finish is ceramic coating air dried on the small parts. Heat drying adds a couple numbers of hardness. Use it for these properties, hard/durable finish, and very thin thickness. It is used also for its heat properties. Also, used as a corrosion protective coating in very harsh environments. The coating appearance shows the manufacturing marks, with little fill in. Will post a few more photos showing detail and description of process. Know safety precautions before using.

Re: 1966 GMC K10 Suburban Project

Cab support repair (2nd mount). GMC 1966 suburban K10, second cab support is different from Chevrolet Suburban’s which is fixed. These are designed like 3/4 ton trucks.
Last photo shows original, before powder coating that melted cushion.
The first photos show material, plan to use in replacing original rubber. In photos 1-3, the body mount is temporarily stuck together to keep from loosing.

Trivia Suburban Note: Unrelated to this thread “Back to Future” movie 1985, has suburban parked on side of street in final sceens.

Re: 1966 GMC K10 Suburban Project

Transfer Case Shift Linkage/Lever
Going back to document the 1966 GMC K10 suburban, transfer case shift linkage and lever, before back to fitting out the frame. Found these parts misplaced for awhile, along with rear e-brake cable for the Dana rear axle. Will post e-brake cable information next. Photos as removed, parts power washed next.

Note: Difference from 1964 Chevy K10 and 1966 GMC K10 Suburban, transfer case shift level hole in high hump. Two Chevrolet's ( 1964, 1965) have a round shift lever hole in hump, and GMC has an oblong hole, as shown by photos 4 and 5. Will post photos of actual high humps soon. Is it a year difference or chevy/GMC?

Re: 1966 GMC K10 Suburban Project

A few more power washed. Note, the rod end that connects to TC lever is not welded to rod straight. It has an angle offset. Photo four shows offset better. This offset is same on 1964 K10 truck shown also in photo 4 coated. The 1964 rod shows more angle in photo 4, because it is rotated more to show offset angle. Both appear to be same angle.

One last photo showing paint drips on rod, from dipping in paint? Will show whole rod with multiple drips and paint. Will get back to the more interesting photos of parts cleaned/coated/installed on frame soon.

Re: 1966 GMC K10 Suburban Project

Today received new aftermarket rear e-brake cables (66 GMC 4 WD suburban). Photos of cables below. The case is 46” contact point to contact point. Front end is 9” contact point to front end. The rear cable length needs to be set based on rear axle used.
Note: These cables are built for newer rear axles that use a barrel connection to backing plate.
