Re: 1970 C10 ChassisFab Build Thread
Got the flip up license plate installed! The hitch is totally hidden now and doesn't hang below the bumper.
This is a cheap universal hitch I bought off Amazon for $150 that I wanted to make work since the only other C10 hidden hitch available is like $400. It took a lot of work to mod the bumper brackets and drill some holes through thick steel, but I'm excited that it all worked out. Just needs some paint touch ups now.

Re: 1970 C10 ChassisFab Build Thread
Parking brake installed! This is just a cheap 330 lb-ft linear actuator that will be wired to a maintained parking brake button/switch and double pole relay.

Re: 1970 C10 ChassisFab Build Thread
nick, very cool parking brake idea... would you be willing to share a little more detail(s) on what used & install methods? IE: specific cable routing and components - pics too . I would like to try this on my '86 build... if not offended... !!

Re: 1970 C10 ChassisFab Build Thread
nick, thank you! appreciate the links & knowledge. I am hoping that it can "universal install" onto my '86 C10 I am assuming that the parts are descent weather acceptable?

Re: 1970 C10 ChassisFab Build Thread
Amazon states they are IP54 rated, which should be fine on the undercarriage of a vehicle. If you drive your truck in the rain though, a splash shield of some sort would help give some peace of mind.

Re: 1970 C10 ChassisFab Build Thread
Great progress! That hidden trailer hitch is sweet. We will have to see some pics of it in use once you start haulin' with it! I like the random shop buddy pics. And that actuated parking brake is trick! That is an awesome idea. I could have used something like that on mine. With the exhaust tucked up in the frame I had a hard time routing the brake cables. They still rub and bind on the exhaust a bit and cause the pedal to have trouble returning.

Thanks all for the words of encouragement! Pops helped me move the frame to his place today to give me some more space at my house. On to phase two!

Re: 1970 C10 ChassisFab Build Thread
Nick, nice work on this, but I have a question about the oil fill and pcv provisions. I'm assuming you had to get an intake that had the oil filler tube on it, was it new or used? Also , what about pcv?
Thanks, Rg

Re: 1970 C10 ChassisFab Build Thread
Some progress pics.
Shortbed chop is underway, dents have been pulled, and all cab rust has been cut out. Lots of dirty work and time with the death wheel! I found a pretty knarly sideswipe on the driver side bed panel that took lots of pulling. Thanks to metaloxfab for the video on Youtube showing how to properly cut the bedsides. I also wanted to add the true shortbed wheel well tip in front of the rear wheels so I spent the extra money to get those patch pieces from LMC.

Re: 1970 C10 ChassisFab Build Thread
Nice touch on the wheel well corner. Most people miss that and it always stands out to me. I've always wondered why GM made that change between long and short beds.

Re: 1970 C10 ChassisFab Build Thread
Sectioned the rear wheel wells to be able to raise the bed floor 10.5 inches. This was not easy by any means but I'm going for a stock look on the entire truck so this was a must.
