Re: My son's first truck
kid was crossing some logs with his '96 and ripped a inner fender splash shield. yanked what was left off and didn't worry about it....till a few nites later. we got up into the snow and as he hit some powder, a huge cloud of steam come out from under his truck...at first i thought he blew a rad hose or something till we looked, his engine was covered in snow....so....some new ones
i had planned on doing the brakes on my '97 with rotors and stuff from the stepper cause their less than a yr and like brand new......but the '97 rotor is thicker, same diameter but thicker so had to buy new rotors and pads and decided i will keep the red canopy only cause i'm going to go black bumpers. the dawgs like the extra headroom as well. so i put some new handles on it, just need to paint the inside grey and call it done |

Re: My son's first truck
few nites ago was heading up the mountain and did not see a 2 ft deep trench the rain and snow had cut into the road. did feel all 3 of my skidplates making contact though. also screwed the dr hub bearing. blew the seal out the back and flat spotted some bearings as it went squeak squeak squeak all the way home.
no prob, once again i got a yr old hub on my stepper i can use- not. everthing matched except the flange mounting base is further away from the hub face on the '97. bah! so much for having a parts truck and saving money... had to go buy a new hub last nite i took the dawgs out. when we got back to pavement, couldn't get my dr window to roll up. fought with it for 20 mins and could not get it more than halfway....so...drove 30 miles home in 10 degree weather, heater blasting and froze my a$$ off. took the door apart today, the bolt for the front window channel was gone...where i do not know as it wasn't in the bottom of the door. prob the p.o.'s slipshod door repair. at least this one didn't cost me nothing. |

Re: My son's first truck
and the only reason the wife don't get mad at me buying stuff, i make sure i spend more on her trucks than mine.
here's over 2 G's i just spent on her 'yoda new grille and black headlights black tail lights to match and finally a canopy for it canopy is in mint, mint shape. no scratches anywhere. guy lost the keys so changed the handles, and the circuit board for the 3rd brake light was hooped so installed a new one just today. the only downside to the tacoma, when your looking for parts and punch in TOYOTA, the price all of a sudden increases 10 fold...oh well, happy wife, happy life, blah, blah, blah |
