Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Any reason you didn't just use some plate steel to fit on the inside of the door as reinforcement for the hinge load? Seems like a lot of work for a piece of rusty sheetmetal.

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Yep, it looks like a turd right now but it cleans up (I already wire-wheeled part of it). It is about 16 gauge as Rok mentioned and the contours fit the door and give it good strength when installed. Also the factory took care not to attach anything to the outer skin because if it flexes at all it has the potential to show through the paint. These pieces take about a 45* position from the rear of the door to the inner panel.
So, I figured I'd start with what the factory used and go from there. If it needs additional support it will get it. |

Looks like everyone is jumping on the 4 door band wagon! These are cell phone pics I took on the freeway today of 10+ 911's with 4 doors and Georgia corporate plates?

It was cool, I have always seen proto type cars in mags that are all covered up so you could not really tell what they are or what new changes were made. These were the same way but this one was the most uncovered but you can see the wing is still hidden. Kevin LFD Inc. |

Yep 10-12 I lost count! Their must have been some different body mods to each one because not one of them was covered in plastic the same way. This one had the rear wing covered were others had side doors, rear engine covers or front ends wrapped up so you could not see everything.

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
I know that Porsche imports a lot of vehicles through one of the ports on the coast of Georgia, that would maybe explain the plates.
Frizzle- badass work as always man. I keep my two roommates updated on this and we usually end up left saying to each other, "he's better than us."

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
bad68bowtie, what's this "usually" stuff...? Thanks for the compliment. Looks like your roommate has some sweet VW's.
Here's the latest: More inner support work A piece of trailer fender welded in place where the door notches for the wheel well Here's what's left of it Lining up the front of the rear arch and that "nut plate" above the C-pillar was not a substantial as I thought. Added a nut welding via mirror... Last edited by Frizzle Fry; 10-29-2008 at 04:10 AM. |

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
The rear jam panel is just tacked in place here to allow me to line up the rear of the door and the hinge box.
I used a length of old weather strip to help position the door back panel Here is is opened at 90 degrees. Unfortunatley I didn't quite have the clearance to go the full "180" (it's really more like 170). So after these pics I took it all apart again and moved the hinge out toward the quarter panel another 1/8". Next it will go back together with the door-side hinge box moved out the same amount. Awesome work man......My favorite project ive seen in a long time for sure. The guy who bought my suburban has cut it and says he is making a Tahoe but actually its just a 2 door hardtop Blazer hahahahahaha. I sent him this thread before he cut it but in his mind he thinks the 2 door is cooler, im like WTF man hahahahahahahaha.

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
I may have missed it... but what are you going to do with the door handles? Shave the rear or put them on the front of the door? I think it would be cool if they were reversed (PS on DS and vice versa) so that the buttuns face each other... man I wish I knew how to photoshop...
