Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Last night, cleaned and swept interior, cleaned all the windows and replaced the right side mirror. It runs better today for some reason...

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I changed a leaky power steering line, checked fluids, and sprayed off some of the mess from the leaky line. Then I drove to Home Depot to get some lumber.

I tried useng Acetone (my girls nail polish remover actually) and it started to take the black off and leave the original paint.... then I remembered I had a DA sander... so I used that to get the bulk or the black off.. then acetone to get the rest.. then rubbing compound to smooth it out... turning out OK... it'll look good from 20 feet when done....
And I just received my poly body mount and 1" aluminum lift from ORD.... so I may have a new update this weekend...

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I finally did something for my truck, but not to my truck. I did a side job to get some money to order a carb for my truck, roofing job.

A few minutes ago I ordered a carb for the '71. It should be in sometime next week and then I will finally be able to drive my truck again.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Put on new hood hinges and spring. Spent 30 minutes on the first spring trying to figure out how to spread the spring. Then I grabbed a hammer and used the claw end. I stood on the inside of the engine bay and pulled....and pulled......and pulled......and bam it caught. Then did the other side on the first try.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Cut the hole above the radio space for the Vintage Air center vent. Ran the trans cooler tubes to the front. Mocked up the aluminum radiator. Started playing around with the rear brake lines (stuck like glue). Worked on figuring out why the BAT terminal of the HEI was used... and there are still three wires hanging out of the body of the dizzy. Started to plumb the oil gauge line. Got tired and came home and painted the carb with POR15 (I was very careful).

Burned up another compressor painting. This is #2 on this build. Gonna have to break down and spend some big bucks for a good one. YUCK!

6" lift and ORD extended brake lines. Still need to change my shocks over and extend my drivelines. Then my wife wants to drive it already. PATIENCE!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Started the '71 with the 454 to move it from the carport to the garage so I can get it ready for the carb I ordered yesterday.

Once it was started it ran great so I could not resist taking it for a short ride, probably 4 miles. I resisted the urge to light up the tires though, must be getting old, lol.

The 454 in combination with a granny 4 speed is great since I use the truck often here on the farm.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I took out the driver side inner fender, the passenger side will come out tomorrow. Learned the front part of the cab is in pretty darn good shape so it looks like cab mounts and floor patches in my future.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

She's fine. Took a trip in the wambulance to the hospital but was planning on grocery shopping today. And just FYI, the rear end of an Acura TL won't hold up as well as the front bumper of a Dodge Ram!....hmmmm...who knew. Thanks for the concern.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I got the the drums and spindle assembly removed. Lots and Lots of banging with the hammer. Only hit my hand twice. The first time was enough, but I just had to see if would hurt the second time. Guess what... IT DID!!!!! I got the top ball joints out, then it got dark. It's bad when you have a 30' by 26' shop and have to work in the yard. Hopefully I can get the lowers out after church tomorrow.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Rebuilt the piston on my compressor. As luck would have it my neighbor had and extra motor for his compressor and it was the same motor I had in mine. What are the odds? Painted another coat on the bed, bed strips and tailgate.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Routed and bent new fuel lines for my new rear fuel cell, almost time to hook it up..

But in doing so my head got into a fight with the front driveshaft while trying to scootch my creeper in the dirt.... I think the driveshaft and creeper are in cahoots with each other.. And of course my head lost the fight. :p

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Got a notice in our box (we're in the country) when we picked up the Saturday mail at 11:30 that there was a package at the Post Office that needed a signature. They close at 12:00 today. Sharp. We made it. Look what came in the mail today from Canada.

Earlier, a trip to the local Napa on the way to our grand son's soccer game yielded a bill of $82. And a bag of stuff you never count in the budget. (More) Carb cleaner, a set of brake line wrenches (lost my 7/16" ...and the set was cheaper than one wrench), a bucket of power steering fluid, a bucket of brake fluid, three brake line fittings, a hand full of hose clamps, etc.

Also, here are a couple of (lousy, sorry) pics of the carb with POR15 on the body and a Krylon rehab of the hood "popper".

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Found more horsepower! Actually took about 8 degrees of timing out and it made more power! Also found after the carpet install with the mat, Lost about a half inch of adjustment on the carb linkage, fixed that too. Going to the track on Wednesday night to see what it will do. Last time it went 7.86 at 86 mph in the 1/8th.
