I got one more wheel polished, just one more to go. On another note, last night the wife and I went for a cruise. We put about 35 miles on it and had no problems whatsoever. On the way back home I told her that after all of the hours and money I've put into it, all I ever wanted was for that moment right then. The two of us enjoying the sounds, the smells, the ride, the scenery and just a little reminder of where we started all those years ago. It was fantastic.

I started sanding the last wheel yesterday, but didn't get it finished. Hows that for an underwhelming update?
So to make this post at least a bit worthy of a glance I'll post some pics of my next truck project...    It belongs to my MIL and her husband at the moment, but they are adding my name to the title. They use it to pull a camper and haul a rhino occasionally. Now they are selling the camper and have a trailer to haul the rhino, so this truck they won't need. I told them last year that I wanted it, but made my intentions clear this visit, so there is no miscommunication. I want it. For the time being it will remain with them until they don't want it around anymore or until I decide to bring it home. Its a 71 C-30 with a 12' flatbed, 427 bus big block and automatic (probably a TH-400). It was used by a local lumbar yard there in St Anthony, ID for many years and is pretty much rust free. The clear coat is peeling a bit but it is near perfectly straight. I runs and drives perfect. I'm not sure what plans I have for it right now but will repaint it and maybe do a hydraulic tilt bed. It might be my last truck build and even that might wait until after I do some other car projects once my Jimmy is built. No rush for me.

Made just a little progress tonight but knocked another item off the punch list and it's kind of an important one. I aimed/adjusted the headlights. Easy enough to do, there are a ton of procedures out there.
The one I used basically had me 25' from my garage door. I measured the hieght of my headlights center to the ground (27") and used tape to mark a horizontal line across the garage door that is just a couple inches lower than the headlights. Then mark where the centerline of the truck should be on that line. (I got behind the truck and looked down the hood ridge and noted the point on the garage door). Then measure the distance from the headlight center to the truck centerline or middle of the grill and transfer that distance to marks on the horizontal tape line (it's about 30.5"). Then just have a nice dark evening and turn on the headlights and adjust the height to where the top of the beam is at the horizontal line. Adjusting side to side is harder because the beams are kind of wide with my new headlights, so I just tried to get them somewhat centered on the marks. Some people like to aim them a bit more to the right to get a better view of the ditch and be able to see deer better. This made a huge difference. When I last drove it home at night the low beams were about useless. I used the high beams all the way and never had it bother an oncoming driver. Hell, it barely reflected off the road signs. Completely different story now. I swapped to the new style headlights with the replacable bulb last year, but just eyeballed the adjustment. The low beam now is better than my old halogen high beams originally were. Took it for a short drive and it's comparable to any of my newer cars for brightness. Truly a night and day difference, pun intended. I still plan on updating the wiring to relays to save the light switch and get full voltage to the lights, but I am very happy with the power I have now. On another note, I called safelite the other day to get a different windshield for the truck. The one they installed just doesn't fit right. It's loose on both sides and doesn't seal. So the installer comes this morning to do that and fix a chip in the Denali windshield. We look at the new glass he brought and it looks like it's shaped like the old one and he figured it wouldn't fit any better. He said the best option was to have his boss order glass from another manufacturer (mentioned ppg and another one) to see if it has a better shape and hopefully a better fit. So that's the plan. He'll come back next week with a new windshield and try again. Results on that will definitely be posted here. Quick question for you ? What neutral safety switch did you use ? The one that Painless recommends for the fuel injection doesnt have a way to bolt to the column ? Just wondering what you did on that part ? Thanks

I used the one on the column. I swapped the van one for a truck one and just plugged it in the normal harness. In my opinion, the most painless wiring is just using the stock harnesses, but I don't have all the added loads you do. There are universal switches available and you could probably make one work. Or just jumper it for now to get things fired up and then fix it later.

Well on the TH-350 and 400 I think the neutral safety switch is not in the tranny but in the shifter. For column shift trucks the switch is mounted on the column just a few inches back from the firewall under the dash. There are 2 plugs that plug into it. Purple wires IIRC. Floor shifters (aftermarket) will have the switch built into them usually.
