Re: Daverods project 66

Looking good .. What donated the fuel tank?? With the 3/16" steel for the floor of the bed, is it to be diamond plate or flat steel? I thought of rhino lining the floor of the bed and using plate steel also. Would add weight at least.
Used to be a thread on here about using a steel bed from a newer truck There may a spacing issue below the fenders where the thickness of the wood is no longer there.. Git'er done and take pictures.

I think the tank came out of a van. Fits good. I'm going to cover the top and sides in 3/16 plate. Metal place did have some diamond plate for .25 a pound.

Making some nice progress

Is there a reason you are wanting to use 3/16's? That's going to add some weight.....

x2

Your truck really looks good, love the patina.

You might want to go with 10 guage (0.1345) or 12 gauge (0.1046)?

I want weight. I'm not going to have a wood bed. Maybe I will wrap the gas tank in somthing thinner.

I was just worried about the hole but I'm guessing it normal.

Re: Daverods project 66

Ordered 3/28/10 Good thing I'm in no hurry. I guess I'm just use to Brothers. I get their stuff in 2 days . Thanks anyway Paul. Put a new fuel sender in my 64. Now I don't have to carry a 2 gal gas can everywhere. Got my frame boxed in. Still need to box in the back.

Re: Daverods project 66

I set my plugs at 45. I think my timing is at 8. I was moving it around to see what it did. I was kinda amazed at how much I could move it and it would still run about the same. Let me know what you set yours at.

Your just not kiddin. It pretty easy to forget that the frame hits the ground and smashes everything in its way.

Re: Daverods project 66

My front tires/wheels are to big. I have a 17" rim and the tire height is 30" they hit my cab. The tires on my 64 are only 27 " tall. If I stand on the cross member it's about 1" from the ground. Figured out why my upper arms where hitting the frame (post 1514). No shims. Need to get some 15" rims and different tires. Guess I'll pull my cab off and paint my frame next.
