Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew
Still here guys! House didn't sell before winter, so looks like I'll have to put a little more work into that this spring and get it back on the block. Wifey and I have been trying to maybe patch things up but it's been a lot of the same-o.
I did FINALLY get my heads done but it was a lot of drama, a lot of moolah and my "replacement" cores aren't as nice as the ones I had. The port job on the second set is nice but I don't think he took as much time as he did on the first. I had to wait a spell for the replacement spring but they're done. Chambers measured out at 65cc, intake runners are 165cc and the exhausts are 63cc. Gotta save sheckles for con-rods next. Might have something in the works that'll help that situation! Stay tuned.

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew
Heads look great, John. The cutters they have nowadays make quick work of tasks that were done by hand years ago. Did your porter also use them in the pocket areas to get the basic shape? Intakes look unshrouded enough to run on a bigger bore engine. You got plans you're not sharing?

Thanks Chip! Boy is doing well. Working at a shop called ICDI Diesel as a mechanic. Lots of injectors, glow plugs and chassis work. He's getting deep on the Snap-on and Matco trucks!

Oh, good lord. You've explained the house/Snap-On paradigm, right? Glad he's doing well.

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew
Still breathing. Some recent motivation! Chip hustles down to Texas for a radical four-eye, I miss Vic Cook in my neighborhood by a millisecond and Greg has Steiner outside next to his Gen 1 Camaro. Oh, and I sold the damn house . I hadn't been to my storage unit in months but had to dump off a few last things and got to lay my hands on that old cab. Soooo I ordered rods! Gonna grab a stand, that old block and git to some blueprintin'! We'll have this thing howling on an old tire and a bucket of gas by Christmas.
Knuckles is doing awesome. Still wrenching on big Ford trucks and learning a ton. Pulling side work along too. Did heads on a Durango for a pal of mine, finishing up some Subaru work for another friend and a neighbor just dropped off his '75 K5 plow rig for a motor job. More motivation for me to grab a stand while there's still Room! Stay tuned... 6" small journals baby!

Sweet lookin' rods, John! Glad the house deal is done and you've now got some "discretionary income" to divert to the project. Looking forward to updates. Catch you on the next trip.

If you were closer I'd let you use/give you an engine stand. You'll be rolling soon. |

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew
Thanks for the check-ins and my apologies for going soo silent. I'm working with a miniature touch screen device these days, which is a PITA! Rods showed up and I grabbed my block, crank and pistons from storage. I plan on getting some block work done soon! I need bored, zero-decked (square), then I need to do some measuring so I can mill the pistons down to 11.0:1. In the meantime, I think I'm going to drag another shorty home this weekend. I want to sell the plastic truck I'm driving to free up another $450 / month. She's got a factory 400 that's drinking water. Boy has lots of goodies and I'm thinking a basic internally balanced rotating assembly and some iron heads will do the trick. A much better driver in my opinion! Barbie truck gets 15MPG and is a DOG! Whatchya think for $2500? 1977 Silverado!

Not bad, if you can really swing the new motor in a timely fashion. (spoken from experience...) I like it!

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew
I hauled it to the house last weekend and promptly had the block stripped. Well, Knuckles did.
It's a 511 four-bolt at +0.030" that could probably stay that way. It had cracked-to-sh!t 882's and hydro-locked #5 (bent rod). The bottom end is already at the machine shop for bore (probably), zero-deck, re-con 5.7" rods and balanced. I pulled the trigger on some Brodix aluminum heads today. The machine shop has ordered some KB 18cc pistons that'll get me around 10.2:1 or so. I've also got a 282ish hydraulic roller kit in the cart! I'd start a new thread over in "square land" but this is just going to be my driver. The goal here is to sell the plastic truck to free up moolah to get my "build" back on track. It's just a side-bar here but it's gonna be a scooter!
