Don't forget to change out the door locks on those doors! I guess it actually wouldn't matter if your glove box is the non locking type.

Moral of the story is, get that gas tank in!!!!

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"

You guys are great!!

I had planned on putting my tank in this past weekend right after I repaired my radiator. The upper hose inlet had come loose, it was still pressed in but the solder seemed to have let go and it was seeping pretty bad. I bought some 50% lead solid solder and some flux and thought I would use a brazing tip on an oxy/ace torch. Big mistake! The torch was too hot (or I'm a total newb fixing radiators ) and I blew a hole in the tank. I think a little propane or mapp gas torch would have been a much better choice.
I couldn't bring myself to pay $150+ locally for a new aluminum radiator with plastic tanks. And the brass/copper ones are $250+
I hit up craigslist and found a couple squares being parted.
So while I was looking I remembered that barclay9 (Brandon) had been looking for a 4 row for his big block project. I found a burb being parted with a big block, the guy swore it had a 4 row radiator. It was a great price so I told Brandon about it. He told me if it worked out I could have his 3 row radiator. Turned out it the burb one is a 3 row, but it is super wide. I think it's @8" wider than the typical 3 row. Brandon figures it ought to be plenty of cooling for his truck so I got a nice brass/copper 3 row radiator. It is probably overkill for my truck but I like that!
Thanks again Brandon!!!

Got to work this morning and found out that I get to drive the crew to Alva
It's about 3.5 hours one way from my house.
This thing runs so nice! I really dig it.
I got 15+ MPG too, and back to the tank, I can't wait to get it installed to extend my range....
On my way out of OKC I had to stop at Hunzicker Brothers to get some conduit. As I pulled up and got out a guy was coming out to leave. He took a double take and stopped to stare at my truck. He said, man you have some work
In that don't you. He was full of questions and I had plenty of answers
He really likes my truck. Makes the hard and sometimes frustrating work totally worthwhile.
This truck gets a ton of attention, people are always coming up and playing 20 questions.
Guess I'm kinda rambling, but I just wanted to share.
I gonna try to find some cool pic spots tomorrow before I head back to
OKC....

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"

Thanks for sharing Joe! Your truck looks great! I had about twenty questions too, but my timing was off a little.

Glad to hear the radiator worked out good too. I don't like the idea of alum/plastic replacement either.

Alva? That's getting a bit close to the panhandle, beware! Troopers out there are pissed off as soon as they go on duty.
Glad you got your radiator situation handled and back on the road.

Brandon is supposed to come by here today and get some stuff. Hope you both make it on your journeys today.

Alva is by were I am always working Joe. It is the only college town I have ever seen where there is absolutely nothing to do.

That's right Randy, I will be there, we are going to try to leave OKC by 9 am.

Glad to hear you got some good road trip miles on the crew man. Also glad to hear it's getting that kind of mileage!

Never a need to apologize about rambling on about your truck.

I was getting paid mileage and my hourly wage so I wasn't in any hurry
I do need to change speedo gears in my trans though....

Thanks John!
after 2 fill-ups I averaged 13.75 MPG for the trip and that was fighting a nasty head wind coming back today, so I'm pretty happy with it

Mostly just work, helping my mom with dad. That is about it. I tacked the crossmember in a week ago, just so I could look at it, but haven't touched it sense.

I think I missed why you put the van ralleys on the front. Are the 8s to wide when lowered.

It's sorta weird seeing those doors on there, makes me see my 'burban sitting there almost.

I was lower and the 8's stuck out too far.
I raised the front up a bit so now they would probably be ok but I kinda like the look better (I don't think it looks right at this height with the same size tires on all four corners) and I don't like the way the front track width is wider on these trucks.

740 pounds in her and she handled it great. I did lightly bottom out in the rear on some dips, but nothing crazy

I can't believe you're hauling all that off! All that is perfectly usable items that others would be proud to have on their truck. Some people, geesh, I swear.
