Been playing with the next evolution of my drive train. I will retain the 4.8L for now but will be adding a LS1 intake and some GTO coil covers. The main reason for the change is to lower the overall height on the engine to eliminate the hump on the bed floor. Engine in the photo is a older 5.3 I picked a while back for a builder. I am also thinking of milling off the GTO letters and replacing them with COE in the same font.

Great idea with the COE. Problem is when you show off your motor hardly anyone will catch it, but when they do...It's the little things.

I think any cover he uses will need some tweaking because he uses the intake backwards with the throttle body on the trans side.

You are correct joedoh, The GTO covers are designed for a LS6 intake not the LS1. The LS1 covers are for the Corvette and have an odd shaped cut out for the alternator or it may be the PS pump. Either way I liked the more closed look of the GTO ones. Either set will require mods for the reversed intake and wiring changes I made. I will also have to change the fuel line arrangement.
Trust me, nothing has been plug and play on this build. That being said I do enjoy a good challenge.

OK, so i finally got around to installing the LS1 intake on the COE. It will take a bit of trimming to make the GTO coil covers fit due the the wiring that was done on the initial install of the truck intake. I could rewire the whole harness to hide it all under the covers but man would that be a lot of work. On the plus side, I now have the clearance to have a flat floor on the truck bed. Mean while, I have been busy installing a Mercuiser 260 HP boat engine in my son in laws C-30. And yes a boat engine will work in a car or truck, assuming it rotates CCW

Nice job on the flat floor. I have always been a fan of boat motors. You can run them wide open throttle all day...try that in your truck.

Rob, It was really nice meeting you this weekend in Myrtle Beach, your truck is AWESOME my wife and I are very impressed. I'm the guy building the 1956 Ford COE with a sleeper and ramp bed. Hope you remember my Chip Foose Drawing. LOL You have us thinking about making a removable camper unit like yours. My ramp bed is 16' long with the last 3' being a dove tail. Whats the length and width of your awesome camper (turtle Shell)?

Hey Bobby, nice meeting you and your wife also. My bed is 12' long by 78" wide. The camper is 12' by 87" wide by 6' 8 1/2" inches high at it's highest point. I loose 2 1/4" for the floor and base frame and 1 1/4" for the ceiling and frame work. Total inside is around 84 3/4" wide by 11' 10 3/4" long by 6' 5" high. I'm 6' 2" tall and have no issues.

Hi all, been a while since I updated so here goes. I ended up going back to vacuum wipers. I have run 3 aftermarket electric kits and had issues with all three. Basically they strip the gears, the issue may be my right arm seems to over travel at high speed and pulls the gearbox over center causing it to load the drive gear. Anyway the vacuum works fine.
Other news the camper is about finished and is getting a lot of use. Over 94K on the truck now and still no major issues. 1 water pump and 2 electric fan motors. They both had high miles on them to begin with. Got an electric fireplace, a old trash can and a retro style stereo for the camper. I wired quick disconnects for both AC and DC power. The brick piece under the fireplace is removable for engine access.

on the electric wiper systems, my right side bound up and threw clips until I shortened the arm about an inch. just took it out, cut out an inch, and welded it back up. the instructions tell you to bend the arms but force on a bend limits torque and amplifies the problem. I know you got the vacuum working now but for the next try maybe!

More, the windows tilt out but still seal out water very well. Had a sticker made for the rear. Even got a drawing to cover the AC door until I can finish that area. I've had it at a couple of shows now with the camper on and it has been very popular.

Very nice! For some reason, I think a lava lamp is needed somewhere...maybe in the fireplace.

Looked at the Blue Turtle lettering and turtle drawing again. It has a cool 70’s vibe is why I think of a lava lamp.
