Re: SoCal checkin' in

There are a pair of early big block motor mounts in a '71 3/4 ton at the pick a part on 6th street in San Bernardino and a hydro boost on a later model 1 ton if anybody is interested. The motor is still in the truck.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Hydro Boost brakes.

Thumbs down Re : GM Hydroboost Brakes

O.K. , we had these on nearly our entire Fleet and it was not so good ~ whenever the V-Belt failed , you lost brakes and steering both at the same time , usually the belt failed when some idiot cut you off and you braked hard .

Just beware that all is not roses with this system .

I hope to never had any vehicle so equipped .

It also has a rear sport bumper on it....too bad they jacked it up and have all the weight resting on the bumper

Ahhhhh...You saw that too. I was looking for a glove box latch when I saw it, I only had a phillips screwdriver with me.

Did you get your truck back yet?

No, they probably won't finish until the end of the year. I am not worried, they are doing a fantastic job so far. Did you end up finding a glovebox latch? If not, I have several and can drop one off next time I am at my in-laws house.

I used a place near me in Gardena. It was reasonable, just took a bit longer than I wanted.

Re: SoCal checkin' in

Checking in from West Torrance/Redondo Beach area in the South Bay. Great to see so many active socal users here!

My rig is a '77 K10 Silverado. See pic in my sig.

Does anyone ever organize any meetups or group activities around here? That would be pretty fun to meet with other truck owners.

Thumbs up Re : WELCOME DAVE !

Indeed , there are many fine folks here , all different levels of interest and ways of enjoying their old trucks .

DO come to one of the meets , I like the Parking lot @ some Eatery ones the best , they're very informal and much idea swapping and help giving occurs .

Re: SoCal checkin' in

Those were always my favorite ones for BMW/Euro meets. The little ones in random parking lots. Just meeting with people, seeing what they did to their vehicles, chatting, enjoying the idea sharing and problem solving.
Would definitely be stoked to get my truck out for some informal hang out meets. Good stuff. Thanks.

Post Re : SoCal Meet & Greets

Hang in there Dave and keep looking at the events page as they have very nice ones indeed , the goold folks here know everything collectively and are happy to share ideas and solutions .

Wait'll you see some of the rigs built at home by regular guys ~ it's all very inspiring .

Some beaters & junkers (ahem) show up too just to prove it is hard to kill a CHEVROLET truck .

As I have extremely limited Internet access , I have to rely on someone telling me whenever there's a local meet , DO NOT miss one ! .

The dreaded tinworm .

I assume you know it's like fire in that it's difficult to halt until you understand ' The <Magic> Triangle ' : ferrous metal , oxygen and moisture .

So , breaking any side of the triangle , halts it .

Being a (damn) Yankee Farm Boy I learned in the early 1960's that fish oil based paints , like Rustoleum , encapsulate very well , far better than the Eastwood crap my buddies in Fla. are always cursing out as it's only good for a few years before peeling away .

The brush typ , dig ? .

That's why it comes in those nifty little pint cans and so many different colors : Farm Equipments need to be rust proofed regularly , ' patina ' is bull**** DEATH to any Machinery , old or new .

Oops ~ ranting again . not sorry though .
