Re: Crash's 69 K10
Hey Crash I have a set of "Extreme Bend" hooks if you are interested. They were 1972 specific though. Not sure how correct you want to make the outside look. PM me if you are interested. I can shoot you a pic via phone worse case.

Re: Crash's 69 K10
Yesterday, thanks to McBassin, I got the AC charged, we never really got the vacuum pulled down to where we liked and when you turned the pump off the pressure reading on the digital gauge Mike was using would go up, but then it attempted to stabilize around .052 psi absolute. We did put about 180 psi of Nitrogen in the system and did not see a leak with that pressure, but we did not leave it on the system very long.. Not sure if I have a leak or not.. it blew really cold air both yesterday and today, so time will tell.
I think I know what the vibration that I have having between 53 to 62 mph is. I noticed the rear u-joint was making a little noise, like the needle bearings needed lube. I installed a new u-joint at 600 miles, and I need a new one now at 1700 miles. I thought the first one might have been caused by me not greasing it after I installed it, but it appears I have another problem. I did some research (http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billav...ft/index2.html) and learned that pinion angle can cause this issue. Below are my results.. It appears that my pinion angle is at an acceptable level. I decided to look everything over and found a problem with the differential yoke.… One side of the yoke is wore were the u-joint rides. Looks like the u-joint may have been loose in the past and ate away the locating tab. Have any of you seen this before, and do you believe it could cause the needle bearings to fail in a u-joint with a little over a 1000 miles on it? Either way I need to repair it… Tomorrow I am going at to McBassin and see if he has a good yoke I can use..

Re: Crash's 69 K10
That's definitely a premature death. Good luck finding a yoke.

Re: Crash's 69 K10
I have seen it happen twice now and not ptiing down your work by any means but the out of three I have seen 2 of them were not installed correctly and the u joint cup was not totally in the pocket and the u joint cap was tightened down so it never sat flush with both sides down, the 3rd on had too much play in the yoke and just a bit wore out so the u joint would actually slide back and forth and hit one side then slide the other way until the tab broke off other than that the only thing would actually be that maybe a needle bearing was out of place or damaged per factory, as defective.

If you have trouble finding a new yoke, you should find what you need here.

Re: Crash's 69 K10
Dang that yoke is beat up a little bit, I have been known to shred some U joints in a previous vehicle but that was because I had a bad pinion bearing and thought it was a bad U joints causing the problem. Well I was the one causing the problem doing too many burn outs back in the day...

Re: Crash's 69 K10
Great looking truck it sure turned out nice congrats.. It only took me about a week to get through the whole build thread.. I'm not sure if its just the pics or my anal retentiveness but you may wanna swap the reverse lenses from side to side to see if they fit better..

Re: Crash's 69 K10
Time for a little update.. Last week I finished up all of the steering and suspension work. I think it is as good as it is going to get. It drives and steers very nice.. it is still a bumpy ride, but that is to be expected…
I installed a 2” drop steering arm.. this leveled the drag link, and eliminated the bump steer that I had. I also went ahead and installed new tie rod ends, I had originally re-used the old one because they felt tight (and also because the new ones are so expensive) Next I installed a sway bar off of later model 4x4.. I built the brackets instead of replacing the front crossmember. This really made a lot of difference…

Re: Crash's 69 K10
This week I installed some badging.. Kyle recommended that I use barrel nuts to easy the installation pains.. I decided I didn’t want to wait, after a few hours I finally got them installed. I will most likely use the barrel nuts in the future
I also installed the 4 wheel drive badging.. much easier to install..

Re: Crash's 69 K10
Thanks Steve.. I think so as well.. Need to get the seats done, have Kyle finish his magic when he gets some time.. take it to a car show or two.. and then drive the hell out of it. We drove it over 250 miles today.. it is so much fun..
With that said, I am looking for my next project.. keep a eye out for a 67-69 Camaro for me..

Re: Crash's 69 K10
Wow the truck turned out awesome , Congrats and enjoy the ride, just wondering on your steering box setup, does the 77-79 gear box bolt rite in or needs mod, as I find the same with my stock one ,is way to loose and would like a tighter feel
Thanks really enjoyed watching your project

Every thing bolts up except for the steering coupler (rag Joint). You will need one from the same year.

Re: Crash's 69 K10
Thanks Mark , will track one down and update , I belive the wild horse ride u experience is very much from the short wheel base of truck and no weight to the truck either , mine is the same , I would like to ride in a stock 4x4 suspension setup and see how much difference there is, screamin did one hell of a job on that paint
Cheers Lloyd
