Re: 1968

Hey George;
Unless the heads were shaved quite a bit it probably didn't change the compression enough to overpower a stock starter.
It is likely the starter is tired, or if it is new or rebuilt it just isn't strong enough to do the job, either way if thats the case buy a heavy duty version and if that fails as a last resort a high torque version and try that.
It's also possible that the battery you have isn't strong enough to do the job, I recommend a 800-900 CCA battery.
It's also possible that the positive wire to the starter isn't large enough to carry enough power and the starter is starving, or the ground isn't sufficient.
Do you have a ground wire going from the negative terminal at the battery to the fender?
I would troubleshoot the electrical first before you do anything else.

Re: 1968

Here is the seat that I had reupholstered about 10 months ago. This will show the colors I will be using. Solid orange on the outside and black and orange in the enterior. The enterior will be the old school roll and tuck. With solid orange smothies and chrome centers on the wheels. I hope to have this truck driveable in 6 months. My plan is to enter it in the Christmas parade Dec 15th in Crystal River, Florida. There is always a lot of classics in the parade. I made a deal with a fellow board member on a set of sun visors, padded dash and arm rest 1 year old. He is changing them to blue. We did some swapping of parts so both of us is satified.

Cool seat. Sure seems like you are closer than 6 months from being done, but I'm obviously a bad judge of timing with truck projects. Looking forward to seeing some pics of Patches rolling down the street in the Christmas parade!

The reason I said 6 months is my cash flow. I could be done in 1 month if I had the money. But, I don't. I will keep on doing what I am doing and one day she will be done. As far as the Christmas parade well that is a few months from now. I will get a lot of pictures on that day.

On the way home fron the muffler shop I came up with this idea. Been working on the idea ever since. 10 months now. I done things and changed them several times. But now I am on the way to the finish line. so the seat has been covered up in my mother-in-law cottage. The muffler system I traded a friend for some parts. I could not use it anyway. It was for a inline 6 and now I sporting a 350.

Re: 1968

Next, I need to get my door panels over to the upholster shop. I am going to do the same thing to the panels. Orange and black old school roll and tuck. I was thinking about putting a boe tie in the center what do you guys think? Will it be too much with the arm rest there also. Looking for ideas. I wany to far some kick pannels under neath the door pannels. but they will be solid black roll and tuck.

That sounds cool! Maybe a little bowtie in the corner of the door panel?

Re: 1968

On the lower door you could use carpet and color match the floor carpet and use a orange edge trim because it would tie in nice.
On the upper door a huge flat orange chevy symbol that goes nearly edge to edge over the black base roll and tuck might look nice.
Maybe have him double stitch the outline of the chevy symbol for some added character.

Re: 1968

Today, I got somemore work done on clearning out extra parts I don't need. and bought a few more. I went to the parts place and asked about 3/8'' line for the gas tank. They don't carry it and can't or want order it. I will go to Crystal River and see tomorrow. There are 3 more places I can check for the line. I ordered a new mounting brackets and hardware for the sending unit and it came in. So I installed it today. I also mounted the ground lead to the frame with brass washers. As far as the sending unit goes it is done.

I jumped back a few pages on the tank. I no longer have this tank in my truck. I have a 1968 Camaro 18 gal rear gas tank. go to page 81 and you can see the tank

Crystal River? You know, it just dawned on me that we were in your neck of the woods a couple of years ago on a Florida vacation. We swam with the Manatees in Crystal River. Just another bunch of tourists that probably drive you locals nuts

Tank looks good.

Re: 1968

Today, I did some more sand blasting. On a few pieces for the jack holder. I still need a jack and rod to get. My last door handle came in today. That makes me a full set. All new ones for the inside and outside. I got one new window crank repair kit coming also. Got my steering rods end and adjusters today. I painted them to match the rest of the truck.

Re: 1968

I found the last piece of the jack mounting bracket yesterday. Got it sand blasted and painted up and the rubber exhaust bracket also. The adjuster for the alt. came in and I cleaned it up and painted it. Wating for some more parts to come in. Like the 3/8 alum gas line. The 3/8 bronze and steel lines for the transmission, they bend like aluminum but a lot stronger. I tried to use steel lines for the bends but it gave me a fit. I destroyed one trying to make them bend and look good. Found a 1/2 set of hub caps and got them cleaned up. Don't know if I will use them or not. I ordered a dome light and wireing harness yesterday. Soon I will have several parts that can be installed. It will keep me busy for a few days.
