With any luck that will be this Summer sir!
We hope to be paroled from our confinement in Alaska by July-August.

I rolled the window all the way down before I started this, mostly to protect the glass, but in the end it confirmed (albeit by default) there were no conflicts in design or placement.
More than likely, I just got lucky Hahahahahah !

Here we have the d-side door in paint, looking good enough so far !

A few days later I set it up for some mock-up photos, I only regret I forgot to prop the arm rest on there too for a more "complete" look!

Just a glamor shot here, sorry everything is so dusty, it drives me nuts !!
The center areas of the door panel and the speaker panel are Metallic Charcoal as is the "Coulter Trim", with the rings Smoke Gray, and Flat Black the rest of the way.
With the sun shining these days I should lug it outside for some real photos so the black will look the way it is supposed to.

This should show you the tilt I was looking for in my speaker. As much as my ankles enjoy the music, I usually prefer it gets up to my ears. So that is the primary why for the tilt, secondary is to be different.

Just an oblique shot for perspective.

Started on the p-side door as soon as I finished this, but had a melt down when my paint started doing the orange skin thing on me. After trying to compromise with it for a couple of days, my solution was to just totally strip the bottom half of the door and start again, to include my bondo job.

I dont know what causes the paint to do that, but man it is insanely frustrating!!

Anyways, thanks for taking a look, and for all the kind comments, I will have to show you what I did with my radiator support while I was waiting for paint to dry...

Pure genius on the speaker tilt! Such a common sense solution, but I never would have thought of it.

Well I have mentioned that I have been getting other stuff done, as I was waiting for the paint to dry.
I also felt it was time for a new video offering.

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....

Cool idea on the door speaker. is your organe peel like little spots where the paint just "avoids" sticking to?? I had a similar issue once before where someone had used WD40 around a part I was getting ready to paint. The stuff in WD40 got airborne and settled on my part. I had to strip it off and wash it down with laquer thinner before I started again....

Just to clarify, what you are talking about is a "fisheye" caused from oil, or silicone residue on the surface, and what I think Murph is talking about could be caused by two things.
If it is truly "orange-peel" it could be caused by spraying the paint on too dry, thus not allowing it to flow-out before drying.
But often this is misdiagnosed, and is actually "lifting" caused by using a lacquer product over an enamel paint or primer....What happens is the lacquer solvents bite in to the enamel causing it to lift, and look wrinkled...
Moral to the story is, never use a lacquer product over an enamel, unless you use a good sealer, but you can always use enamel over lacquer...

Thanks Modges, if I were going to do it again, I think I would go less boxy with the inset, and more of an arch or contoured to the shpae of the 6x9" speakers....

As far as the doors are concerned, the mods are about done, and I am prepping to re-hang them. I am only holding off waiting on my deadner and carpet to arrive so I can install those unrestricted by the doors.
All I have left on the doors is to mount the side views and arm rests. If anyone has a pair of the arm rest nuts sitting in a spare door, please let me know if I can sway them from you!

Hey like I said in the video, I "borrowed" the idea from Oklahomaduner and RockTonka. I just wish I had their dimple dies and press as well, for I surely would have mirrored their work even more on those.

The knife has been insanely therapeautic.... If I start getting frustrated, or I need to let something sit for a while I just start dinking around with the knife and after a few minutes life is good again...
I still need to temper it, and it still needs more shaving, but it is cool.

As soon as the interior cab is done, moving under own power is next goal.
That entails:
Radiator purchase and install
Power Steering Pump bracket mods
Fan shroud mod/install
Drive line install
Rear Sway bar install
Fuel Lines purchased, bent, and installed (main and return)
All fluids put in (coolant, brake fluid, powersteering fluid, and oil topped off)

off the top of my head, that should about do it.
As for a date, I am still shooting to have it completely done by 4th of July weekend-ish.

Wow Aggie, always a treat when you stop by!
I have seen what you are talking about, but that has not been my issue.
I think it is more what Modges is saying below....

Thanks Modges.
It starts off looking like Mojave mud flats, with the cracking and peeling, only wet. It turns all the paint, no matter how many layers there are into goo. Even if I let it dry, sand it out, and reshoot it, then other areas adjacent to the first spot will do this.
So far the only remedy I have found is to strip it all down to bare metal, and use the oil and wax remover that I have. Then while it is still wet with the remover, I wipe it down with clean rags until the area is both dry and the rag is clean.
Only then can I re-shoot my paint without strings of cuss words attached.

The next time (as if I want that to happen again...) I will be sure to shoot some pics and maybe video.

Well until next time.... Rock On Dudes and thanks (always) for looking at my junk.

Heheehhehehe (no Bomp, not THAT junk)

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....

What Modges said was my next direction without seeing it. I had that happen too on a pumper I did for a friend. i was using a cheap enamel over a laquer primer that was sealed, but I had sanded thru a few small spots and thought it would be OK, it wasn't. I had to strip it all down and start over like you mentioned.

Anyways, I always like looking at other's projects and learning from their troubles and helping out when I can.
