Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
Been making progress on a few things that are not really photo worthy:
Going with steel gray pearlecent on the xmembers and sway bar. Here's the color: I think it'll give a nice contrast with the other black parts and blue paint. |

it will give the project an over all subduded sleeper look.. more like a daily driver then a hot rod..
isnt that what you are going for? =-)

looks good FF. i think i have that color in powder too! it will look good against the blue. black would be the other option, but you've already gotten some black parts.

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
The Alpine and the Tiger are the two models most people think of with Sunbeam (if anything). Alpine had a 1725 4cyl and the Tiger was a Shelby signature shoehorned Ford small block 260 in nearly the same car.
My car, Minx, was badged as a Hillman in most parts of the world. The Sunbeam badge may have been a Canadian deal (like Mercury Trucks). Posted via Mobile Device |

Yes he did, but the AC Cobra was not the only car Shelby and company worked on. If they liked the body, the insides got modified. Kinda like somebody with a 62 truck, or maybe a 4 door 69 Tahoe...

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that the Tiger was the official vehicle of Maxwell Smart! Hmm...maybe the Minx needs some extra features...like a machine gun that pops up through the hood, or a built-in shoe phone

Thanks Larry. Nice project! I check out retrorides from time to time. Good stuff. Looks like that ford fits in there with room to spare. Clean car too! What's the year and model (I'm no sunbeam aficionado)?

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
f@rt makes smaller packaged engines and at times they fit better in another car , personaly i would go with a chevy
the old aluminium rover / buick V8 is pretty populair too in england as they way about the same as the cast iron line 4's there replacing there even kits available for ford capri's.opel manta's and kadets and some of the small pickups

Frizzle,
It's a Rapier Fastback (Alpine in the U.S) 1969 vintage. Based on the Hillman Hunter wagon/estate. NONHOG Build thread would be difficult,it's been off the road for 14 years!!? Very slow project watahyaknow Windsor motor is a great package for conversions, distributor @ front, small dimesions. Would really like to use a toyota (shock, horror) 1uz v8 but width kills them. Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
Back in the game. The following update took WAY too many hours, mostly due to mistakes and rework, but I'm happy with the results thus far.
Rear brake caliper brackets. First iteration was fwd facing. Looked good except one minor detail: they blocked the coilovers Fortunately with a little rework I was able to flip them to the rear and all clears: |

Very cool work on the brakes. You may have already said, where did you get the mounting plates and what are the calipers from? the donor? Keep the pics coming.
sorry to hear about the rework......I know how much time this kind of stuff takes. |

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
Fab'ed the brackets. Calipers and rotors are all S2000. This approach keeps the world of S2000 aftermarket parts not only an option, but a requirement

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
Part of the reason I placed the calipers in the front was to accommodate the e-brake cables. They now faced the wrong way:
Since no performance car is complete without a functional turning brake the ebrake cables/brakcets/belcranks had to be reconfigured (lots of rework here too) Once the cables were pointing in the right direction, I needed a fun-lever to pull them. I looked at reusing the stock piece, and as novel as it was being on the left of the driver, I never really got used to it there. I looked at relocating it to the center, but it was too long and would have had to mount basically under the seat to put the handle in reach... So yet another S2000 piece found it's way into the mix. I made a platform mount for it and reworked the lever mounts themselves to obtain an angle/height that works with the trans tunnel: |
