That would be the same stuff you put in a GM limited slip diff right?

no, it was a little red tube, came highly recommended from the tranny guy here in town. I think he said it was for slipping in top gear, any other gear you needed a rebuild.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

So I finally got to something that has needed to be done. Flush my coolant. I guess a motor that sits builds up some surface rust inside. To my best efforts of flushing before I hooked up the rad. The coolant still went rusty, I guess driving shook it all loose and when it got hot when the fan stopped working. So warm up motor, drain, fill with hose water warm up again. Drain, fill with distilled water, warm up, drain, fill with long life diesel coolant.
Oh the coolant in the tray started green.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Today I made a hood latch to rad cover. I have been thinking the way the truck has been running some of the the air is going over the top of the rad in the 1.5" gap. Now that I have taken it out on a run I was right. Stays noticeably cooler on the gauge at cruising speed. I used three holes that where already there and some 1 1/4 X 1/8" angle with some 1/8" rubber I had. I also finally painted my hood latch.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Hi all! So Saturday was crazy hot and humid here but the truck ran great. I had a photo shoot to go to about 20 min from home with Dave from "Stance is everything" He picked the location and told me where to put the truck. It was cool to see what angles and positions he chose. I'll post link when I get it.

Bob, I can't wait to see the pics. I recognized the location immediately. I lived in the "Hespeler" part of Cambridge for a few years, not far from that old furniture factory.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

So then Sunday morning at 9:00 Joe came over and we put my truck on my neighbors drive on hoist and pulled the transmission. Hardest part was getting it on the ramps right so it could sit on the scraper bars aired out. We blocked up the motor and had it out in 2hrs just the way I had planed it to come out. It got dropped off at the trany shop this morning and I should get it back end of the week.

Very nice on the shoot! That's good to hear the trans removal went great. That's definitely an early E40D with only 4 torque converter mounting studs.

Thanks. Ya the 4 bolt was used on the non turbo motors and the crank bolt pattern is different on the newer 6 bolt. The 4 bolt should work fine, if not then I'll see if I can make a 6 bolt fit.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Stopped in at the transmission shop last night. All the major hard parts "pump, gears" are good soft parts "clutches" are burnt. He said the forward clutch which runs reverse and 3rd gear had a lot of play. He is adding another clutch disk to the forward clutch and doing a few other mods to help it hold more power. All sounds good to me. You can see on the clutch disk it is black instead of brown.
