What wood are you using and what stain? I will be doing my wood in the near future. Steve

Re: Wife's 48

I will post pictures of what I used later, but I used white oak and a medium dark stain covered with 3 coats of spar varnish all the way around.

Re: Wife's 48

Well mom, I made my bed!

We are really pleased with the color and the look. Laura helped me bolt it in, man what a PITA, but no bad words were said while I was under the truck trying to get all those washers, lock washers and nuts in place.

I was asked what I used. I started with white oak bed wood, and here is a picture of the stuff I used to get it this color.

Re: Wife's 48

10 out of 10 all the way around, Beautiful truck, Great color...excellent seat, bed wood is terrific. What was that about stretching metal when welding, about 7 yrs ago. Seems like ya nailed it. As for painting yes you can, YouTube does have some good video's ( paint society's) explains getting the gun adjusted. Might have to build a spray booth, plastic sheets in your shop, etc.

Thank You for the material pictures and the bed came out perfect. I have the original pine that came from mar-k. It came with the truck so will use it. Steve

Re: Wife's 48

Thank you, Jan, and Notsolo. It was Laura's choice on colors and she did good. I have learned a LOT on this truck, and still learning as I get back on the 54.

57fleetside, pine won't take stain very well, as it has so much sap, but if you want it darker you can stain it some.

Thanks for the advise. I have never stained wood but wood like it darker than it is. I was going to stain it then try automotive clear coat over the stain. I am doing a test piece when I paint the inside of the hood and inner fenders. Steve
