This is what I use to dress my welds down. I use the 1991 to level and the 1406 or 1407 to smooth.

Alan, the extra work was probably a birthday present from a higher authority. I like to use that term. Got to use it once at work. I had a persimmon tree blow down on our campus during a storm. It was the only one we had. I got a nasty letter some time later from a Biology professor demanding to know why we removed it while he was off for the summer, and that he used it in his classroom teachings. Nice link to some affordable abrasives. I might check into it someday.

Since I couldn't work on 198's I welded my hood tonight. It got too late to grind. I've got a little over 2 hrs so far. I still need to grind and clean up and touch up spots that I missed.

Tried to clean out the joint the best I could.

Tack welded about every 3/8"-1/2".

Connected the dots on every other space

As it is now. It's hard to make a pretty weld when you jump around so much. All will be ground smooth.

Those welds don't count if you know you will be grinding them down anyway. Can't wait to start doing that to mine.

Hey Alan, the disc's on the left, are they flap disc's? Just curious and couldnt tell from the pic.

I used to do it that way alan but it seams to cost alot... I went to an off label brand for my roloc and small disks. But the do the best job and more control

Some times the cheap crap won't last long. It will cost you more in the end.

True... I got them realy cheap from s&w. I think i paied 25 a box for them. They dont last as long but for the price at the time....sweet

I have used some cheap stuff over the years and find myself using 3M again.

Got a master cylinder today. So far it looks like it will work fine.

Also ground the welds down on the hood. I still need to touch up a few areas. So far I have about 3 hrs in it.

I've used WIW thread without much luck so I will post my question here. I need to know WIW on the steering wheel and ring. The wheel has some stress cracks. And pitting on the chrome. Thanks

nice work on the m/c Alan....Tony should know on the WIW for the steering wheel and chrome horn ring..
a new reproduction wheel goes for around $150 to $200 I beleive. so mayby,, and I'm guessing
with the horn ring around $75 to $100???

Anybody in the area going to Super Chevy Saturday June 6 in Commerce GA?

Welded a few pinholes and ground smooth. It looks better and think it will be fine. Spent another half an hour on it tonight. Which brings the total labor up to 3.5 hrs

$350 not bad for a nights work. Looks nice. Now I'm going to go do mine. I'm thinking I have about 10hrs in mine and it looks like $hit. Another 10 and it will be fine.
