OK, that must be a cool place to work. We used to have one around here...moved to South Carolina

I guess if something hangs around for 3 YEARS it has to hit 1000

MSGross, resize your pics., you're screwing up my right hand border (800X600)...lol

OK, the chemical worked great no more rust, but where it was heavily painted (I scrapped off the paint) there was rust underneath. The finish of the metal was smooth, once the rust was removed. Weird, I would have thought the metal would've been all pitted. So now it's back in the chemical bath. Seems like this process will free me up, as I can work on the truck instead of standing in front of the sandblasting cabinet( cost over 1000 with vacuum unit) So, this chemical method is really low tech, low buck

It had gotten rusty cause I drained the system and let it sit... so my little experiment was just that, an experiment.. It had a lot of loose paint on it and such so I figured for $30 i'd just buy another one! But the internal rust had all turned black and stuck to the steel plate so I know it did something!

Re: PO has me PO'd

That chemical bath worked pretty well, can you reuse the solution?

I would suggest that you don't use that coffee cup though!

Yeah, the coffee cup is just for paint stripper. Stuff I use is very strong and eats just about any container I use, except ceramics

Solution will cover up to 20 sq. ft., reuseable, no smell, and can be put down the drain

Re: PO has me PO'd

I think I found a new way(for me) to clean, derust, and paint parts with zero time and effort. Time spent was in the painting process, which I would've done anyway. I didn't use a high build primer, which would have removed the pits, but I did use a etching primer. So, for me, I will be saving my compressor for my air tools

Keep in mind that this build is not for show, just a clean daily driver. That is why I don't put the time and effort into making parts purdy, just no rust!

Everything is assembled with anti-seize, I won't be around to take it apart, but the next owner will thank me

Before you know it all your trips will include the Jimmy and you'll be saying, "remember when I use to say....."

My Blazer? Well I've had a few other projects going on lately, work related & house related, that have taken up the majority of my free time, but within the next couple of weeks I should be back at it.

And the boy that you're referring to, #2 of 3, is doing very well at MSU, (Go Spartans!) and lifting weights daily. No competitions lately, but who knows what will be coming up. He is also working as a police cadet at MSU police station. Wish I had half of his motivation.

Have fun fishing!

Except, when you were young and motivated, you didn't have any funding (not that I'd know anything about that).

Before I was married, if there was such a time, my whole paycheck went into my car. I've come a full circle, children are all grown and on their own, now I can put my money back into my projects. 42 years later, lol

No, you just have to be creative with the cash these things will generate...I used to work on all the sports cars in my area to get the cash to build, and maintain my own. Back then you could buy english sports cars for a 100.00, maybe less!

This was before the internet, I would take them apart, keeping the best parts and junking the rest. I had 10 garages, my basement and 2 backyards filled. Plus the one in the workshop. Deal was wifey gets the paycheck from the factory, I get the profits from my small shop. BTW, I built the workshop for 600.00. A pick, a shovel, and a
wheelbarrow and 1 summers labor

Of course if she needed more money, or Christmas would roll around, I would give up more of the profits. My boys were always hanging around the shop, gave them a heads up on the other kids with pneumatics, electricity and all things mechanical...they turned into mechanical engineers, go figure
