Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

Frizzle,
It's a Rapier Fastback (Alpine in the U.S) 1969 vintage. Based on the Hillman Hunter wagon/estate.

NONHOG
Build thread would be difficult,it's been off the road for 14 years!!? Very slow project

watahyaknow
Windsor motor is a great package for conversions, distributor @ front, small dimesions. Would really like to use a toyota (shock, horror) 1uz v8 but width kills them.

Larry (actually an Oz G.M. fan but anything done right will do)

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

Back in the game. The following update took WAY too many hours, mostly due to mistakes and rework, but I'm happy with the results thus far.

Rear brake caliper brackets. First iteration was fwd facing. Looked good except one minor detail: they blocked the coilovers

Fortunately with a little rework I was able to flip them to the rear and all clears:

Very cool work on the brakes. You may have already said, where did you get the mounting plates and what are the calipers from? the donor? Keep the pics coming.
sorry to hear about the rework......I know how much time this kind of stuff takes.

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

Part of the reason I placed the calipers in the front was to accommodate the e-brake cables. They now faced the wrong way:

Since no performance car is complete without a functional turning brake the ebrake cables/brakcets/belcranks had to be reconfigured (lots of rework here too)

Once the cables were pointing in the right direction, I needed a fun-lever to pull them. I looked at reusing the stock piece, and as novel as it was being on the left of the driver, I never really got used to it there. I looked at relocating it to the center, but it was too long and would have had to mount basically under the seat to put the handle in reach...

So yet another S2000 piece found it's way into the mix. I made a platform mount for it and reworked the lever mounts themselves to obtain an angle/height that works with the trans tunnel:

Fab'ed the brackets. Calipers and rotors are all S2000. This approach keeps the world of S2000 aftermarket parts not only an option, but a requirement

Sweet! Everybody loves e-brake slides. Your sunbeam will be starring in the next Fast & the Furiouster movie.

The way the tranny tunnel is notched right there is like it was built exactly for it. Looks outstanding.

I'd have to add the requisite body kit, wing, and big exposed intercooler

Well, it's turned sideways in the shop such that it won't simply roll out. You'd have to do a million point turn or put a floor jack under the rear. I wish the keys were a security concern...

Glad you noticed. That wasn't by accident

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

Little bit more on the ebrake-

Cable bracket mount pad:

This is the stock Honda coupler. It is to be crimped over the cables. Will crimp on final install:

Extended rod in stainless and added a Z-bend (RC airplane technology). I'll likely make a cover for the rod so it's not visible from the rear seat:

Since one of the cable holes went through two layers of sheetmetal (only half the hole) I added half of the appropriately sized washer and a full washer on the lower hole to even it out:

The uniform surface is required for a good seal with the orings:

...and made the caliper bracket spacers permanent.

On to the rear sway bar (a must-have with such a stout front bar)

I cut up a 3rd gen Camaro/Firebird rear bar I had in the parts bin. Shortened by 1.5" and reclocked the diff clearance/ends. Note: all length removed from driver's side due to the offset diff D44:

Burned in and smoothed out:

Tube-stock begets bracket (focus fail, I know)

x2:

Chillin at the bar:

and tacked in (end-links next)

that's a given! i'd figure the "owners" are entitled to the first "joy" rides better watch out, the wife may enjoy it a little too much.

as for the rear sway, does the stock F-body go backwards too? or did you do that for clearance and room? are you going to do the standard bushings on a bolt for the end link? i got a set of nice blue poly bushings and links for my father in law's ranger front from rock auto. it was $20 for the set i think and really nice.
