Re: My 52 GMC Build

It'll be good to go. Does anyone make a billet cover converter for those 4 bolt apps?

There is really no aftermarket converter for the 4 bolt. My trans guy is doing a mod to give the converter more holding pressure. Down the road if that fails I will make a 6 bolt fit. Even with my camping trailer I am still only 7000lb total.

I wouldn't really be worried about the towing as just the lock up while towing and getting on it situations. The 4 bolt converters had big issues with the housing flexing under acceleration and allowing the clutch to slip in the converter. Actually all these converters do it and that's the main reason billet covers were made years ago. Try to find a flex plate set up from a 92-94 factory turbo IDI. I'm pretty sure they had 6 mounting provision converters. Like you said, you may not need it now, but if it could be done easily and cost effectively, it may not be a bad idea while it's apart now.

Here's a TC, and maybe a 7.3 powerstroke flex plate will work? It might be worth doing now. I know we upgraded my dad's old 91 from 4 to 6 when it had a turbo IDI in it but i can't remember for sure where I got the parts.

http://ktperformance.net/i-6685264-d...iple-disk.html

Rock auto shows a flex plate for a 94 but they don't tell if it is for the psd or IDI.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Thanks Diesel I have been doing research for a few weeks now and I have found very little. I did find that the turbo idi are very rare due to it being an option for only 2 years. It looks like the turbo IDI has 6 bolts but I have yet to find one for sale. The IDI flywheel is 15.72" dia and PSD is 15.68" so that won't work. I am thinking of taking a 4 bolt fly wheel and making it into a 6 bolt but it won't be right now. I may also look into getting a manual flywheel and machining it to accept the 6 bolt TC.

Yes I was going to but the trucks that where in the contest we never saw at the show. I think it was predetermined who was part of that.

But I did win my first trophy. "Best Lowered"

Re: My 52 GMC Build

So Friday eve Joe came over and we got the trans back in and truck down in an hour. Then it took us about an hour to get all 14 Liters 3 gal into and pumped through the trans.
It works great. Put about 160mi on the truck this weekend, very happy. It runs 30*F cooler than before.
This was today. Not bad for just a break stand roll out.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Saturday for a trans test drive Joe and I went over to Weber Chassis, about a 10 min drive from my house. To check out what they are working on and had a photo op with there '56 502BB shop truck. On the way home from there we stopped at Joe's buddy's house he has a BMW Lsetta.

Thanks John I think it would be cool to have one of those motors. I would probably just sit and watch it run for hours.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

So one thing I noticed is the trans temp starts to climb when in stop and go traffic. It was quite hot outside. I decided to give my rear trans cooler (the one with the fan) more ability to get rid of heat. I cut a 2" wide 14" long slot in the bed above it. I may move it next year when I redo the bed.
I also had Joe come over and use window urethane calking to seal up the front windows due to the fact they leak when I'm driving in the rain. Wow it looks different without the visor.

I was looking at my window today and think it will need urethane too.

there is a chart somewhere online that shows trans temp related to life expectancy of the trans, that keeping it around below 200 will dramatically extend the service life. I will try to find it. is your cooler a fin and tube or plate type?
