Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

Rick, it could be as easy as carbon on a valve. That motor did sit a while correct?

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

yeah it sat for about a year. but the spark plugs are all like brand new. not a bit of carbon or dirt in there but i was looking up what causes ruff idle and poor timing and it said timing chain. so i looked at the pics and you can see my timing chain is loose... its also the cheaper of the different ones they sell.. cant believe i over looked it

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

Def go with a double roller timing chain. They are cheap and easy to install. Bad weather you say? That means a lot less entries into the show. More chance for me to win

I just looked backthrough the pics, yeah it has slop but I don't think enough to cause a miss, check everything else before you tear it down. Now let me tell ya a story about my dually It sat a while and one day I drove it and it started missing. After compression test #2 was low I pulled valve cover and started it thinking bent pushrod. Everything looked fine, tapped on the valve side of rockers while it was running miss went away motor knock a couple of seconds and was fine. A chunck of carbon was holding the exhaust valve open. Whew! Moral of the story check everything before you start tearing it apart. Sorry didn't mean to write a dang book

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

a dead blow hammer (soft hammer), also make sure the intake sealed, could be a vacuum leak as well. what I'm basically saying is diagnois it before you fix it. Do you know how to check the intake gasket for leaks?
