The only thing I can think of is the alloy content in the tailgate is different. I'm not a metalurgist, but I've had that problem on some new cars. YOu are using new pins right? I've tried to reuse pins and for the most part it doesn't work. The tips get contaminated. Try grinding the tips down just a little and see what that does, just curious. If you do cut out the damaged area are you hammering it into shape and welding it back in? As long as it is not rusted.

Re: My 1965 build thread
if i cut it out I think i could just fab a whole new bottom using pipe for the curve and just brake at the two seams. would be stroger and clean

I appreciate it alot. Didn't get much done over the weekend. Sdailey came over and helped finish sanding the cab and taped up some of it. I finished modifying the cab lift bar so it will go a little lower and finished taping it up. As the lift goes up and down it will tear the plastic some. I will just have to patch it as I go. I'm hoping to get it at a good height so I can paint the bottom pretty easy.

Wish granted
I'm shooting single stage right now. My two tone gray will be base and then I will clear the whole thing. Quote:

Got the outside of the doors painted as well as the cab. I'll get the two tone done soon. Then set the cab on the frame and hang the doors and hope and pray they line up. Sealer Sorry for the lighting conditions in this next pic. You ought to try to paint in it.

Joe these pictures don't do the cab justice. You should see it in person (like I just did).
