Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Got a notice in our box (we're in the country) when we picked up the Saturday mail at 11:30 that there was a package at the Post Office that needed a signature. They close at 12:00 today. Sharp. We made it. Look what came in the mail today from Canada.

Earlier, a trip to the local Napa on the way to our grand son's soccer game yielded a bill of $82. And a bag of stuff you never count in the budget. (More) Carb cleaner, a set of brake line wrenches (lost my 7/16" ...and the set was cheaper than one wrench), a bucket of power steering fluid, a bucket of brake fluid, three brake line fittings, a hand full of hose clamps, etc.

Also, here are a couple of (lousy, sorry) pics of the carb with POR15 on the body and a Krylon rehab of the hood "popper".

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Found more horsepower! Actually took about 8 degrees of timing out and it made more power! Also found after the carpet install with the mat, Lost about a half inch of adjustment on the carb linkage, fixed that too. Going to the track on Wednesday night to see what it will do. Last time it went 7.86 at 86 mph in the 1/8th.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Had a buddy come over and we welded the exhaust back up right after the camaro tank install. Good to go now. Shot some more paint on the bed sides this morning. One more touch up spaying and I will start cutting the wood down and fitting it in the bed.

Put new valve cover gaskets on to stop major oil leak, changed oil, couldn't get filter off though. Also replaced broken turn signal arm.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Started tearing stuff out of the interior of the 71 Blazer I picked up. Removed rear seat and took out home made side panels and carpeting. Carpeting was glued down. Anyone know of a solvent that will aid in the removal of carpet adhesive. Paint thinner (mineral spirits) doesn't really do much.

Swapped in a Red-Head steering box. Rebuilt the rag joint. Pulled the PS pump and ordered a new one alond with what I hope is the correct high pressure line....

I also unbolted the body mounts so I can install the new poly kit and 1" ORD body lift....

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Finally found a little time between other projects to work on the '71. I re-routed the wire to the temperature sending unit wire away from the headers.

Mounted the remote solenoid and figured out how to run the new wires.

While re-routing the temperature sending unit wire I noticed that the wire to the Hei distributor was spliced to the yellow wire. It has been running ok that way, but I decided to run a new heavier duty wire to the distributor from the ignition unfused connection in the fuse block with a in-line fuse.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

relized that with Cupped LCA, 2 1/2" drop spindles, and a dropped X member not only would I have to get rid of my A/C and heat but the tire would be rubbing on the hood and firewall....Dam why can't it be easy to be cheap

I had one of the same ones pretty much explode & come apart too. Replaced mine with one from another 72 truck also. The old one felt like it was 3x the weight as the new one.

On Sunday - did a temporary work around for a bad wire somewhere in the heater harness. Ran a fused line from the fuse box to a toggle switch at the cig lighter location & then on to the motor. On or Off at full speed is better than NOTHING. It's been a little chilly here some mornings & foggy windows are hazardous to drive with.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I welded up my firewall and fuel inlet on my cab.. I ordered everything from Infanti machine http://www.infantimachine.com/products.htm. fit perfect. The gas filler hole was rolled perfect... It would have been cheaper to buy a sheet of metal but saved me a day of labor ($80.00 total with shipping). Highly recommend.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

My wife picked up our new one-piece drive line ($272 all rebuilt w/new yoke...I expected about $150, but I'm living in the past, I guess.).

Bolted up the new brake set up to the pedal (now the only thing left in the cab). Guess what, the '68 (the cab I'm using) pedal assy has the part that accepts the brake rod that goes through the fire wall about 3/8" shorter than the brake set-up I got. Luckily, they sent that part attached to the threaded rod, so I used it. Just one more "'68 ain't a '71" surprise.

Same with the carb linkage. I have to use the '68 on the cab and make a rod to attach to the Edelbrock 600 cfm. I'm going to use a '68 rod that LMC says is for a six cyl.

Stuffed one of my three steering columns thru the hole in the firewall and came home. Tomorrow's another day.

Finished installing my new disc brake system on the 68 S/C truck, 13" fronts, 12' rears, all new lines and a CPP aluminum mastercylinder with built in proportioning valve. I also, installed a B&M line lock for good measure, .
