Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

LOL!!!!!! People are funny! I just got back from getting the new tires on. The dude that pulled my truck in the shop comes in the waiting room and goes "that's a pretty sweet truck you got there, what motors in it?"

I said "it's a 5.3."

He goes "oh, you mean a 5.0? That's what, a 305?"

I say "no, a 5.3."

He looks at me and the only thing he says this time is "5.7?"

Again I say "no, a 5.3 liter, out of an 06 Silverado."

And then, he actually said it. I have been WAITING for this moment ever since I started this swap...... "Oh, a Vortec motor? I don't think that motor will work in a truck that year. Those are computer controlled and everything."

So, needless to say, when I went out in the shop and opened the hood, it was like a bunch of bees swarming a packed picnic basket! And I will admit it, my chest was a little inflated. Lots of ohs and ahs and how did you do this and that. It was pretty cool!

So now, Fred has two new shoes on the back. He's a happy camper!

I got that all the time when I had my 67 Chevelle that I transplanted an LT1 & 4L60E from a 93 Z/28 into. I would tell people it was an LT1 and they would assume I meant the 70 Z/28 solid lifter engine not the modern EFI engine.

It was fun to mess with the "mechanics" who knew everything.

Looks like you have an earlier bumper. Mine is the smoother profile and came off a mid 80's Suburban.

Too bad we're 1000 miles apart I would swap you bumpers.

I love those kind of guys. They know EVERYTHING because they "work on cars" all day. Good for you. So, did your chest get a little puffed up when you watched your build thread view count blow up too?

Oh by the way...did that snow mobile picture come from Google or Yahoo?

Hell yeah! #1 in replies, and #4 in views!

No Google, no Yahoo, but my camera! That was on our 12th anniversary. February 18, 2007, about 5 miles from our cabin in Keystone, Wyoming. 2000 SkiDoo MXz 700cc, matching his/her sleds!

It's an absolute blast! But we sold them this spring so we could buy 2 ATV's. The sleds are fun, but the riding season is short compared to ATVing.

Oh that is cute Bob. Do they match too? (I wish we had a "lovebird" icon of some sort I would use it here.)

Oh your build thread is only popular for Fred. Don't think we all come in here to see you and your stuff. Damn, I am kinda ruthless today I guess.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Well, when I said "matching his/her sleds" a few posts ago, I guess what I was meaning to say is that they match! So if being about 50 numbers off in serial number, same color scheme, same track, same bars, same engine and mods, etc is matching, then I guess they match!

Oh, except mine were yellow skis, hers black. So I guess that blows my matching theory, eh?

Bob, is that your Arctic Fox Toyhauler in the last pic too?

How's the swap write-up coming along, or are you too busy answering all these trivial thread questions?!

Nope, not mine. I had a 4-place enclosed that I had finished out on the inside. Insulated, heater, shelves, generator, microwave!

How did I miss this thread for so long? I'm on here every day! All i can say is "I'm hooked!" I just spent 7-1/2 hours reading this thing from start to finish. You answered lots of questions for me. I could have answered a few about the A/C stuff, but you figured it all out. I used to test compressors for a living. Anyway, very cool truck, even for a square body.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Yeah, when I go places in my '79 CJ and someone asks what engine is in it and I answer a 302, I always get, "you mean a 304, right?". I just answer, "Nope, a fuel injected 302...you know, out of a Mustang". Then they usually want to see, 'cause they think I'm full of it. It does feel awesome when they have to eat crow.

You're truck is coming along GREAT!!!

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

My uncle always put 350's in his streetrods. Never failed someone would ask what kind of motor was in it. He would say 350, and they would say "these didn't come with that." Sad part is auto parts stores would do that too. One guy at O'Reilly asked him if he was sure he knew what he was talking about. I would have loved to been there for that lesson!

I mix & match parts so much on my vehicles that I keep a notebook for each rig that lists what vintage all the parts are and what they came off of for reference.
