The goal at this angle was to adjust the attitude to the window, and kick out the outboard edge and lessen the degree of angle to the line of sight from the drivers seat.
I also wanted the mirror housings to present a more streamlined stance to the overall body lines.

Yep that is what we did one day when I had the bench seat in the cab and how we got the positioning figured out. We played with a few different ideas, like mounting them on the hood like a european car, forward of the wing windows, ect.
Where they are mounting was the best place possible.
It nerfs the wing window, because when opened it will only have about an inch of sweep, but that is acceptable since I want to go to one piece glass eventually.

Here is the p-side pedestle with the start of the filling.
If I had to do this again I would not totally pack that empty space with JB weld putty like I did here. It added SO much weight to that neck space I was actually worried. On the d-side one I added a small bit of bent sheet metal to act as a baffle wall and packed the putty in around that. It seems to have come out quite a few ounces lighter.
Even though I placed them pretty close to the hinges, I still added a very thick stiffner plate to the insides of the doors in the hopes that it will keep the mirrors from doing all kinds of crazy and damaging things from all the openings and closings they must endure.
Also shown here is a bit of stainless steel tubing I cut to fit to act as a passage tube for the mirror controls.


Here both of them are roughed in with putty:


After the JB Weld putty was roughed in and sanded down to contour, I coated the outsides with JB Weld Epoxy which helped fill the low spots.

This was also sanded down before primer was shot on it.
Shown on the left:


This is the d-side mirror, inboard side all done and shot with the final color.
It also shows the stiffner plate that went on the inside of the door:


And here we have the outboard side of that same mirror.
I realize there are some minor imperfections, but hey.....


Next I will show you guys how the doors turned out, and how the mirrors look mounted up in the (hopefully !!) final install.

Thank you, that is quite a compliment. I look forward to what I can do in a real shop though, not a shared garage...

"No" "Can't" and "That wont work..." are hard for me to accept.
Seen too many Soldiers do too many things that would boggle the mind to accept the concept of normally acceptable reality.

Although the laws of physics still give me trouble some times.

First off, before I could mount the mirrors, I had to paint the doors (of course) and this is what I came up with. The only addition to the original crayon drawing I did waaaaayyyyyyy back on page 2 of this build, was I added the metallic fleck pinstripe between the gloss grey and flat black.

The intent of the pinstripe is to blend the transition between the two main colors, and to tie in the trim of the interior.

Ok you fine folk of the Jury, tell me how I did...

Wow, Murph! Awesome progress! I didn't know I had missed almost two months of good stuff! Loved the vid at the beginning of the month. It was good to see the mooselette out and about rather than broken thru someone's windshield and laying in their front seats after walking out into traffic along the Richardson! Not a good day for man or beast then! But, boy are mooseburgers good over a charcoal grill!

Have you had to get a transfusion yet due to mosquito season?

And one old and yet unanswered question (at least that I could find); where did you find your instrument bezel that didn't have all the factory holes for the ignition and lights and stuff? Great job of that project as well Sir! You is da man!

Mosquito Season..... the second season of the year up here, immediately following Winter and just before Fall.
For the factory bezel, I made that.
I picked up a spare bezel and cluster at the boneyard, and got the cool idea of doing a control delete on it once I decided to do the under dash extension.
You will have to go all the way back to page #8 of this thread to find where I did this. I did that last November.... LoL.
Doing this mod is when I fell in love with my Dremmel tool

I had a pretty gnarly dent in my hood that the dent puller was not getting to good enough to suit me, and I wanted to make a mod to the fresh air intakes/hood release holes. I plan to screen that in and make it functional for a future mod/idea.

#1 is my original guages (silver) and a spare from the boneyard (black)
#2 is cutting out the old controls holes
#3 is the patches donated from the original guage cluster bezel
#4 is after some ZipStrip and brass wire wheeling on the bench grinder. It is now ready for some filler, contour detailing and then paint.

Thanks! I must have missed that! I guess I'm going to have to try that as well. All I can do is royally screw up both bezels.

My rule of thumb on all this has seriously become "Cut Big, Trim to Fit....no matter how long it takes"
