Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

I can't find anything wrong with it. If that truck was a meal it would be gourmet... or is it the best dang BBQ you ever had from a roadside stand?

Did I show this?

The truck in the picture where I replied to the previous post is a Western Star. I believe it is Post White era, just a Western Star. I was diggin' on those White Western Stars back in the day they used the old White cab and were hand-built.

I find this International interesting

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

A West Coast Mack...cool!. I've warmed up to the R models more recently. When they were everywhere I could care less about them. I mean I like all trucks, but they were nothing special to me. I lve the dump bodies out that way. Low slung and long. 10x sexier than our big buckets. I want one. This West coast dump was at our Tr-State show last fall. Love it! Patina and all. Wouldn't change a thing on this old veteran! Appears to have been outfitted to work till not so long agao. Either that or this guy fixed himself up a hot rod lookin' truck

That big Diamond T belongs to the Keystone Truck & Tractor museum in Colonial Heights, VA. I want to get there soon.

That IH logging truck is one dangerous set up. When I see something like that again, it makes me glad that I've retired. Takes me back to the first time at US Steel. They plopped a 34K coil on my flatbed. Ran out of the slag house to tie it down and the brand new 40ft. Fruehauf was bowed. That was a trip I will never forget. Great pic though...

I'm curious about your trailer bow haul too. How about the way the logs are chained. Is that common?

Well. Where do I begin? #1 The snow. The equipment of his day. The load is weighted towards the back of a short trailer. He has the load chained off in sections with those older binders. I believe he has too few chains. The load looks to be about 15' high. He has the binders on top of the load. You cannot see if they are becoming loose. The good news is the multiple axles and maybe he is only making a short run to a nearby mill or river. God Bless him...

That is a sweet unit. A single axle? Most of em you saw were twin screws. Here is an older one next to one of my fav's. An old AutoCar... Great driver's and kinda private in the cab...

Nice. That one I showed is probably a West Coast doubles hauler.

I believe this one is still a Diamond T. Could be Diamond Reo. Can't see the emblem enough, but this is where they changed.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

Ah yes, Campbell Express.

My first memories of trucking companies are Campbell Express in Springfield, Mo, and Garrison Motor Freight (GMF) here in Harrison.

WE also had Jones Truck Line which became GMF which became American Freightways which became FedEx Freight.

I can't remember all the trucking company names I forgot. But I remember forgetting about Campbell. Jones does sound familiar. Dark green trucks?
