No, the cab isn't coming off the frame on this truck again for a long time. (If I do a crew cab)

No new progress on this thing. But the headliner did fall half down and I tore it as I ripped it the rest of the way off. Stupid POS. I'll be getting a new one now.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

Here's some progress guys! I got the RH frame rail support made, I smoothed out where I had to clearance the frame for the primary turbo, and got the front portion of the frame ready for paint. Then I painted it with POR-15 gloss black.

I also got my shipment from DIY4X which had my RH spring mount for the D60. I put it on, but have to heli-coil the housing as one hole is stripped out.

I'm hoping too. I'm taking it to the All Truck Nats in KC September 7th so it will help if I can drive it. It gets old pushing them around.

Thanks. I was really worried how that was going to turn out, and it turned out pretty nice. I doubt it will break either.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

what did you do exactly? looks like you fab'ed a "bulge" piece and cut out the existing frame rail? hard to tell with all that shiny black paint and the camera angles

either way, looks better than a decimated flange on the stock rail and a lot stronger

Well after doing the steering box bracing on the 88 burb, I had an idea. I just basically put a plate on the out side of the frame, one on top and one on the bottom. This is almost like a sleeve around the stock frame. It added more lip to the areas where I cut out. I welded it all on and included the front cross member in to it via 2 bolt holes. The brace goes past the engine cross member area, so it should be stout.

oh, i see better now. it sure looks like beef. i got all confused by the plate that the front crossmember bolts in with. made me think you had completely cut the stock rail.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

Thanks guys. I have made some good progress on it lately. I am having issues getting my pics loaded though. The engine is setting back in the frame all painted up and I'm getting parts off the floor finally! The only hick up I'm going to have is my lower water inlet. After the frame rail reinforcement, now the radiator hose will rub on the frame. So I'm going to have to come up with a fix for that.

Here are the oil feed lines for the turbos.

Here is the KDP installed.

I got a lot more done than this. When I get the pics up, I'll post them.

Yes, it's a 98 or 99 24v with an industrial 190hp p pump. I'm going to time it to 25*, it will have 7x.012 injectors, and some afc tuning with a ground plate. The injection pump also has 4k gsk's in it and I might put some bigger delivery valves in it. We'll see how it fuels at first.

Don't feel bad about your project............... This one is a long time in the making.

Mine just don't want to load. I'm pretty sure the issue is photobucket, but can't get through to any customer service peeps.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

Ok, getting some pics to upload finally! Here is another oil feed line shot. I also got the oil returns ran for the turbos too.

Here is the wear sleeve installed for the front seal. If you ever have to replace your front seal and your crank has any scores or bad wear on it, this is the seal you need to install to ensure it won't leak again. I also installed my new valve springs, but didn't take pics of that.

Painted the engine gloss black.

Got my billet tappet cover installed along with my billet freeze plugs.

Got the engine sat back in the truck, and got one hydraboost line on. Last night I got all new lines for the power steering system. Today I'll see if they fit.

I should have more progress to report tonight. I'm going to get the clutch in, install the trans, and get the trans cross member finished. I'd like to plumb it and try to start it tomorrow. We'll see.
