Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....

So I don't even own a Chevy. But I do live what McMurphy is doing with this. Plus I get to see the build live. Only downside is I have to come here to see the videos. So figure I'll stick around a bit and see if I can snag a fee ideas for if I ever get around to my own build. Oh by the way fan looks awsome was hard to see from the side of the truck the first few tries.

Great job on getting the engine started. You'll be off and running in no time flat.

Wooooo Hooo! Congrats Murph!
I Like!!!!
That has got to make you feel like it was all worth the effort that you put forth!

I have a lot of wiring to do before I am at that point, but can't wait!
After a bit of a stall on my build, I have had some great advances (in my mind) but now I can't post the pics...At least with any ease, or photo-quality, so I have decided to sit-tight, and wait impatiently...I WOULD RATHER SPEND THE TIME BUILDING THAN FUMBLING AROUND TO POST PICS RIGHT NOW!
I am working Soooo hard to get the un-exposed part of the truck all cut-in with paint, and I am inching forward...
I can't wait to see your first maiden voyage, I know that you will have adjustments to make, but there always is!
Forge ahead, it will be a ride well worth the wait!!!

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....

Definitely a proud moment for you!!!besides the fan belt it sounds really good. Got some more painting to finish inside my cab, herculiner my floor, then it's time to pull the motor and trans out for a proper cleaning, new gaskets, and proper paint job. Hearing your truck makes me really want to get mine going. Been to so many local carshows lately and really wish I had my truck there every time. Great work man keep it up!

Good to hear you got the engine fired up. We got the same thing done to Korbin's truck Sunday night at about 11:45pm. Did not run it long since we did not have any water in it, but it started without issues once we had the fuel leaks fixed.

Thanks Kro!!
I just used the old hoses to loop them so my engine would not run totally without coolant !! It seemed to work great.

Yeah I really like it too, even though you cannot see it with the shroud on, I know it is there, and sure helps to see those blades when the shroud is off !!

Should be getting the rear sway bar on today, and getting the brakes bled...then it should be able to roll and stop under its own power for the first time in 10 years !!

Hey guys, in case you did not figure it out, Weischedel is my neighbor that we share our duplex with. He is a great guy and has been a ton of help on this project. In fact he totally wired my engine, and more than half of the cab electrical for me.

Yeah for some reason though, the old boy wont start now.
Last week it would start, but stall out on me after 10-15 seconds of running. I put fresh gas in it yesterday, as I thought it was just running out of fuel since the tank was practically empty. No luck so far. Gonna hit it again today after I finish my main projects of rear sway bar and brake bleeding.

I am with you Modges... this site server transfer has really nerfed my motivation to post pics. I check almost daily to see if it is back to normal, but no luck yet.
I will not be posting the whole month of August, I have other things going on, so hopefully by September the site will be back to normal !!

Wife and I are going to show our Pontiacs side by side at the Spokane Good Guys next month. It will be the first showing for her car since she got it back in 2006.

Love the video! I would steal the fan/paint idea, but I don't run a mechanical fan. So I guess you'll be showing up in the truck at Goodguys in two weeks then?!!

Hey Murph, Glad to see all the progress you're making on the truck. I wish I could have made it out to Goodguys. It sounds like a good time was had by all. As far as the pics are concerned, you can post pics like you always have except you have to upload one at a time up to five and then post them to your thread. If I can do it anybody can.

With the fan shroud you cannot see the painted fan tips, but for me it is enough to know it is there!
Sure was great seeing you again this year, and I have to echo your comments about the time passing entirely too quickly !!

I feel I was in esteemed company during the car show, your being there would only have made it seem moreso !
Let me see if I got this photo posting mess figured out now....

******************************************************************************************

First up is the monumental meeting of Bomp and myself.
Let me tell you what an honor it was to meet this incredibly talented metal worker and his lovely wife!
We were pretty limited to what we could do with them in our home town, as there were time limits and distance constraints (They stayed in Spokane Valley while our homestead is about an hour north on the complete opposite end of town...) But we did the best we could as hosts, Mr and Mrs Bomp were very gracious guests! We were not half way through dinner before the two wives were chatting away at a better clip than Greg and I could muster.
Go Figure.

After all the photos of the car show meeting that have already been posted, I figured I would post the one I liked best of our "Home Town" Line Up. This is Markb's GMC, then a car I wish I can remember the details of, then mine and the wife's Pontiacs. It was such an eventful month for things automotive (we blew the enging in our 77 Cheyenne 4x4, the fuel pump in the Tempest ate itself and I dropped the driveline in it too, as well as a loaner truck dying on us while the Cheyenne was getting refitted....all within the first week of us being there)
None the less, here is the pic:
Name: DSC03820.jpg
Views: 641
Size: 66.4 KB

I regret we did not get any photos with JLSanborn, what a great guy he is too! As well as close enough to our homestead as to be neighbors, heh, sorta...

**********************************************************

There are a couple of things the photo uploading thing kept me from sharing with you all.
So I am in an even bigger updating backlog than you can imagine right now; but this is one of them:
I got this about a week before we left on vacation.

This is a 1964 C-30, one owner.
When he got it, he built the flatbed and the tow boom from scratch then used it to finance his life for many many years.

It has:
either a 283 or a 327cid, I have not run the numbers yet to confirm but I will soon.
It has two transmissions, I was told it was a Browning? But I have not gotten this confirmed yet either, sorry. But I do have 3 reverse gears and 12 go forward gears....
Delux steering wheel.
7 or 8 ton winch, not sure which but it is pretty cool.
This truck has the LEAST amount of rust I have ever seen on one of these like ever....
I am pretty sure it is rocking the original seat still too.
It is about as bare bones as it gets, radio delete plate, single sun visor, ect.

It drives like a champ, all my work buddies just love it!

The plans for it are to power assist the brakes (a brake job all the way around) power steering, and a vintage look stereo.
Then we are going to use it to trailer down the 66 I am building and use it as a car show hauler until the 55 is done then I will spruce it up and sell it (hopefully).

Anyways, it sure is good to be back on the board with you guys, oddly enough I have missed you guys !!

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....

Nice to see ya made the trip back to NP safely.
Again it was great to meet you and all the other guys. Thanks for everything while the wife and I were there.
We will spoil you when you get down in my neck of the woods.

Now onto "Project TT" (tow truck). WOW that thing is Sweet.
Grill looks perfect. The whole front clean, not even a bug splat.
If you get the casting numbers off the back of the block I can look'em up for ya.

I'll gather things this weekend and get the box full of goodies off to ya now that you are home.

Me wifey says to tell your wifey Hi.

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....

I just wanted to congratulate you on an outstanding build. I've been reading a lot of builds here and it's really neat to start from the beginning and see not only how your level of confidence grows as you go but also the friendships you've made along the way. I only wish I had joined this circus earlier so I could have been along for the ride. Looks great and yes I will be stealing ALOT of your ideas for mine! Thanks for all the great info.

Glad your vacation was great! Loved the Murph meeting Bomp pic.

Nice score on the TT. Sounds like a great plan you have for it.

Also glad you are back to building. Know you deserved your well earned vacation but the rest of us need to see some Murph building!!
