Re: Daverods project 66
I got my spindles toay. Forgot to order the $75 bracket that holds the calipers. Thinking about just using new cailpers. With modular spindles your stock caipers won't mount on unless you buy a bracket. My old dust shields won't work ether. Don't know what to do there? Wonder if I even need them?

Re: Daverods project 66
Ordered my bracket. Took my rotors down to be ground, picked up new calipers, pads, and bearing. All this for $105. Guess they don't make dust shields for the modular spindles.

Re: Daverods project 66
What size wheel are you going to use? You must know the height of the tire and wheel before you make your air bag cups. The angle on your ball joint could be too much, and it could fail. Be carefull.

Re: Daverods project 66
New A arms. Or if you could put a wheel on it with the same height dimensions. That would help a lot to see how low you really need it. It might be laying frame with no wheels on it, but it's not an accurate way to check.

Re: Daverods project 66
I get my rotors tomorrow I'll put some wheels on then. Does the out side diameter of the tire change with the different rims?

Re: Daverods project 66
Put the tire size you want to use on the front, and take the diameter size and divide in in half, and take that measurement and measure from the spindle shaft to the ground. Do this with the frame on the ground.
Use this chart. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Re: Daverods project 66
Right now I have 12" from the ground to the center of the spindle. So how about 155 30 20's that gives me 11.85". or 145 35 19's are 11.54"? Sweet chart. So I want the wheels more or less than 12? "Less right. or doest it matter that much?

Re: Daverods project 66
Dave if you run those tire sizes you will have really thin tires. And I dont believe anyone makes those tires sizes. You have to think most 16" car tires are about a 205.

Re: Daverods project 66
I wish I could be more help, but I never did 60 to 87 trucks. Lots of 88 and up though. And made them lay frame. It looks like you need to get the front suspension to drop lower.

Re: Daverods project 66
the porterbuild dropmember would be just the ticket its designed to lay frame with 22 inch wheels .
with the original crossmember adapted you still have the original steering and the alighnment will be out of wack when youre running low along with the clearingproblems with the oilpan and the headers that need to be atended too , the porterbuild dropmember is practicly a bolt in and uses a ford rack and pinion this tightens up the steering a lot and keeps the wheels aligned a lot better troughout the up and down motion its allready has the pads for airbags he changed the geometry a bit so the wheels are a bit forwarth in the fenders to be able to fit bigger wheels and make the wheel look more centered in the wheelwhell he recently added a new treat to the forum plugging his newest version and the A arms hes now building nathan porterbuild is a verry nice person and a good man to do busness with he keeps to his word unlike others i dealt with

Re: Daverods project 66
Dave you got me thinking last night. You can also raise the front portion of the frame in front of the cab. Like you would do in the rear. It would raise your engine too, so you can't go too high. It would for sure get your 20s on and lay frame. You would also have to drop the front portion of the frame in front of the cross member to mount the sheet metal and bumper. Lots of work, and the cheapest way to go.
Watahyahknow's idea is good too, but looks like it would be expensive. Do you have a link to there web site?
