I hope that holds and doesn't tear the metal, I have to admit I cringed a little seeing that. I have done "temp" repairs in industrial settings that were left in place as permanent and they failed in that fashion. I suppose it depends on the stress put on it. Ah, what am I worried about, it'll be fine.

Man, this is a cool build! Just found it and read it today. Definitely subscribed.
I have a friend building an MGB with S2000 motorvation. http://www.motorwayltd.com/project-keating.html He's the 1 man fabrication team at the shop. Maybe you guys could run em when they're finished. I'd like to see that. I'll send him a link to this build.

Wow, they started with a super clean shell! That bolt-in IFS is very nice, but I'm lovin the super-narrowed S2000 IRS. I seriously considered going that route (had one on hand) but ultimately decided to roll with the K.I.S.S. approach (for once). I'm wondering if he'll have to shorten the shift rod and relocate the shifter fwd at all like I did. Would love to run em some day. Ft. Collins is an awesome town and now I have yet another reason to visit

We got to check the Herald out when it was just a painted body tub, it looked good inside and out.
Frank is a hell of a craftsman for sure. I'd give him carte blanche with any of my stuff. That MG tub is a brand new re-pop. I guess the whole damn car is available in pieces brand new.

FF, nice work on the rear swaybar mount. yeah looks about the same blue poly mounts. i love how you made the mount removable for future changes as needed.

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
sorry guys. The pics were lost during transfer (for real). Now the rear end is stripped down and danglin from the cherry picker. It'll be painted this week and that should break the seal on finishing this project. The smell of paint does wonders for the motivation.

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
went through this entire build. very impressed and hope to be as good as yourself with sheet metal one day. one question though, what did you use to prep the axle housing for the POR15? i ordered some for my frame but all the info about prep for it i've found is about rusted metal not clean raw steel. thanks in advance sir.
also what types of brushes would you recommend? any additional tips/tricks you have for the painting process please share.

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
Good call on the gloves and the foil. If you get POR-15 on your bare skin, that stuff will stay on forever.
I also agree with Bluejeep's suggestion about using throwaway cheapie brushes, too. You'll kill a good brush because you can't clean the POR-15 out no matter what you use.

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
Went back and added some comments to the pics.
Blue Jeep is right. The "Metal Ready" prep product leaves a zinc phosphate coating for better adhesion. I'd also recommend scuffing up smooth metal with something like heavy steel wool. I've had POR15 peel off from super clean/smooth metal even with all the prep they recommend. DO NOT use dollar store foam brushes. I'd say don't use any foam brushes. They can shed little foam particles and leave a terrible finish. A cheap bristle brush works fine. The brush strokes will level out if you don't keep going back over it. |

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
I got the POR-15 on my elbow doing a trunk pan, NOTHING would take it off. I wore it for 2-3 weeks.
BTW- How far are you from putting the Beam on the street?
