Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
It seemed never ending, probably 20 hours or so of detail sanding...

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I started out Fathers day getting out to the garage and priming on my truck! WHOOO HOOOO! I can't believe it, the very first application of primer or paint on the rebuild, WHOOO HOOOOO!
I found a sandblaster and will call them but I am thinking more now into just doing it myself. After all, this SPI primer takes any crap all away once you spray it, I mean look at the inside of the cab, it's perfect now. So I was done by 9:30 this morning and took a little ride in the sun with my 65 Gran Sport. It hit me that I need a photo of the car in front of the house I sold in 1986 that gave me the money to buy it. Sooooooo, here's the story. I sold this house in a divorce for $115k. Splitting the money with the ex I made $8k and splurged and bought the Gran Sport for $2250. Now the sick part, this house, it's worth very close to a million dollars now! Maybe even a million but certainly $900k or so. Yep, wish I had that instead of the car! Brian

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
You know you are working hard when you go into the house to have a shower and change into clean work clothes and go back out.
I got some more sand blasting, sanding, grinding, welding, and masking done. I will be priming the back of the cab inside and the roof and front cowl lower sections so I can weld pieces in. I would have loved to get it in primer tonight being it's so warm, but alas the next door neighbor is having a bbq out back so I can't do that to them. I will be out there first thing in the morning and get it done. Brian

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
worked on my fender this evening. I couldn't get it to lign up. nothing worked. over and over I loosened and tightened things up trying to figure out why. two hours later it dawned on me that the spacers/shims i used before the fender was hit may not work now that the fender is straight. sure enough. pulled them out and it went in like "butta". I was planning on getting that compressor bracket mounted today but everything always takes 3 times longer than you think. oh well. I have 2 blts to install on the back side of the grill that I think shakes tiny hands are made for. then im driving this thing all day tomorrow. I guess its fathers day. im just a step father but maybe I can get lunch out of it,

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
And I have to tell you if you are doing any painting or priming this is a MUST HAVE gun! I have a whole arsenal of spray guns, some costing many hundreds but this stupid $40 gun just blew my mind!
I got it for primer only, polyester primer actually, it's got a 2.0 tip. I went to prime the inside of the cab and have another for general priming that was going to grab but saw this and the tilting cup and it hit me how useful this may be. Now mind you, I don't believe I have ever even used this gun where I moved the cup out of it's normal position. I just thought it moved and it mounted that way because it was an odd gun, it never occured to me that you could do what I did today. I rotated the cup to spray the gun upside down! OMG! Look at the photos of the areas down in the bottom of the cab corners. I looked with a flash light and was blown away that it was TOTALLY coated inside there! https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...726739341.html Brian

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I got the fender buttoned up early this morning. I haven't put the headlight in yet but its sunny and hot so no worries there. I haven't run the truck in two weeks. when I turned the key it fired like it had been impatiently waiting on me. drove it to the gym and to run a couple of errands. we are about to go to lunch in it. having the fender back on had taken a great deal of the rattles out. im trying to focus on my interior systems but I need to get the front valence and bumper mounted so it looks like a whole truck. that's going to be a huge pain in the a$$ though due to my clipped subframe. so we will see when that all starts. after lunch im going to let it cool off and then I will start my bracket. going to take a little work. I have to grind a tiny bit and will need to move the fuel line a couple inches but I don't think its going to be difficult. having said that im sure ive cursed myself into a three week job to install 4 bolts.

Finished the battery mount. Side post to the rear. Cables run down the back and down the firewall.

I went to an antique swap meet and even though it was a non-automotive event I miraculously found a set of inside door and window handles for my AD, and a pair of tail lights.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
drove the death rattle all day. I fall more in love every time I drive it. I didn't get any work on the truck done. I did clean out the garage which will lead to better work later on. well I guess I did a tiny bit of work if you count prep/research. I took the new a/c bracket out and held it in place and went over the directions while looking at the motor. I already knew I was going to have to move the fuel line over a couple of inches but I will also have to cut the alternator bracket spacer to allow the a/c compressor bracket AND the alternator bracket occupy the same mounting hole the on the head. that means im going to have to get a bolt that matches all of the a/c compressor bracket bolts for the alternator. I believe I found a winner though. its supposed to rain all week here so maybe I will get some work done during the week.

Tested all my gauges for proper operation, installed a rheostat behind the dash for final brightness configurations.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
okay.. I got out to start on my compressor bracket. I didn't get as far as wanted. mistakes were made along with messes. I had to lay my alternator to the side. easy. then I started following the installation instructions. the first step is to grind a small area. did it. install the cradle on the top water pump bolt. done. remove 1st manifold bolt. done. here is where it gets messy. I needed to remove the heater hoses from the manifold and water pump just to have some room to move. coolant everywhere. its a disaster in my garage. got that handled. the bracket sits just about right but I have some more work to do. I need to make 2 spacers and make sure my belt lines up. the good news is that the bracket will work on top of my alternator bracket. im stoked about that.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I was BEAT today at work, fell asleep in the lunch room! And I love my five minute a day plan, that's all I was going to do, clamp the seat riser in to place, that was it. Well, I got it all welded and ground and the front brackets welded in, it's done!
I then went out for a 2+ mile walk! Brian

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Raised my truck on jackstands and had my wife step on the brake pedal while I spun the wheels. My brakes are now fully functional!
Between the faulty proportioning valve, adapting GM hoses to Ford calipers, and the inevitable leaks, what an ordeal these brakes have been!

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
So cool!
I remember reading an article in the old "Rod Action" magazine back in the seventies about taking that first drive and how all the busted knuckles are forgotten. I wish I had a copy of it, it was really well done. Brian

Also my first ride in this truck was as a newborn, my parents brought me home from the hospital in it back in '78. It did feel pretty good taking it out on Father's day.
