That chipper would be nice

About half the extra 20 acres that we bought is choked with juniper under the pines. Cutting it is hard enough but dragging/stacking it is a killer. I've managed to get a couple little turn-arounds carved out and created two huge piles.

Got a few fence posts and a couple wheelbarrows worth of firewood too.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

This morning one of my neighbors brought his track steer down and fixed the access into our adjoining property. Some years ago long before we bought it the county grader cut off the driveway access leaving about a two foot high bank that you could jump a 4wd pickup or jeep over but not a car or camper.

Now if I can just keep them from doing it again! There is a culvert under the driveway but the county has filled in the ditch so the water just runs down the road. Sometimes the grader scratches out these stupid little grooves along the edge of the road that usually drain the water to nowhere

I would put a culvert under my house driveway but there is no ditch upstream from it. A few years ago I built a shallow water bar across the foot of my drive so any water coming down the drive will drain off into the coulee bottom instead of out into the county road.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Well I was headed back from picking up a new to me Honda foreman 450, when the fuel pump in me beloved ‘72 decided it was time for its service life to expire… luckily a buddy from work was close by and gave me a tow from the intersection it died at, to a near by parking lot where we were able to get a pump rounded up and swapped. It’s honestly been a great morning. I’ve been driving this old heap for about a year, and this is the first time it’s given me any trouble at all. I was winding down the old country backroads this morning having the time of my life just enjoying a great cruise. A good roadside fuel pump or hei parts swap is just part of the fun of having an old truck. All I could do was sincerely thank the lord that me and the truck are safe and that I am back up and running.

I'm glad you got that worked out. I have driven these trucks a long time and have had some roadside problems... but not very many!! Usually, no matter what, I have been able to drive it home. Easily repaired or fixed enough to drive home. Usually not requiring to call on anyone.

I have made good friends through breakdowns. Your fuel pump story reminds me of when I lived in Flagstaff (Mountainaire, actually). I never met the guy a couple doors down who drove a '63 C10, but we'd wave. One evening he walked by and told me his truck was sitting at Flag Car Wash with a bad fuel pump. We took a minute to introduce ourselves and I told him to hop in my truck, we'll go fix the truck. We became good friends.

Very true Tim, I had a ton of people ask me if I need help while I was sitting in the left turn lane waiting for my buddy to get over to me. I’m sure most of those guys would have all be great help. I think like most they were probably attracted to my truck more than anything. We all know how much attention they get even if they are sitting briefly on the side of the road.

A little bit of Yesterday and a little bit of this afternoon I spent some time getting that Foreman running. My friend who gave it to me said it got pretty hot and then wouldn’t run right after that. It’s been sitting close to a year. Well I slapped some jumpers on it, dumped some fuel in the tank and hit the starter. Fired right up. I rode it around a very little bit yesterday to see if it would run ok and it seemed to run pretty good. I tinkered a little more with it this afternoon and really didn’t have any major issues at all other than what I presume is some trash in the float valve. It is dripping fuel out of the overflow after sitting for a little bit while not running. The battery was dead but seems to be holding a charge for now. My daughter and I rode it all over the place this afternoon with no issues.

Yesterday I also got some side work finished up on a friends 81 GMC C2500. Up until earlier this spring it had been sitting for almost 20 years(last registration was from 2003) he dumped some fuel in the tank slapped a battery in it, swapped some tires around and drove it home. It ran but not great. I gave it a good tune up, fresh cap/rotor/wires/plugs, freshly factory rebuilt quadrajet, and new vacuum lines along with a new inline fuel filter, both radiator hoses, and thermostat, and it’s running great. I’m gonna do valve cover gaskets and change the fluid in the TH400 this week.

Here’s some pics of my new four wheeler. I don’t think the hour meter and odometer is correct… at least I hope not!

Yeah!!

I straightened the picture because I thought that I had to be reading it wrong.

Or somebody REALLY liked riding it.

Glad to here you got her up and running with no issues. Don't forget to double check the oil though. They have a tendancy to raise the level in the pan when they die.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Finally got the "king joist" installed in our old hot tub room, and then did the layout each direction and put in all the rest of the joist hangers. So all I have left to do before getting plywood and installing it is cut the remaining joists to length and drop them into the hangers and nail everything.

Since the room most likely wasn't square, I installed the middle "king" joist first and squared it off of one wall (3-4-5). I can trim the plywood on the ends to make up for the foundation/walls out of square.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Finished up new umbrella holder for the pool. It was wife’s idea she saw, I just had to make it happen. 120 lbs of concrete in the barrel around one of those holders you screw in the sand at the beach. I had the idea for the table top to make it dual purpose.
Wife is a teacher and this is her last week before summer break. Got strawberries frozen for daiquiris and other libations in the cabinet. Bring on summer I guess.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

The wife and I spent the weekend in south La visiting our daughter. We were in the Yukon. Yesterday the trans shifter cable popped off the gear lever on the trans and I used some zip ties to get our daughters home. I went to O'Reillys and picked up a new bushing/keeper for it and installed it this morning before heading out coming home. Just over half way home we stopped for gas and food and it popped off again leaving the truck in neutral. I pushed it away from the fuel pump and slid under it to try to zip tie it again but it was too freakin hot to touch so I know they wouldn't stay on long. So I did what any gear head worth his salt would do and grabbed a clothes hanger and cut a piece to wrap around the deal to get us home. I don't carry bailing wire. but the coat hanger got us home. I'll make a better fix tomorrow when the thing has fully cooled off.

We took my mom to Summit Hotel in PA for lunch on her 91st birthday. I never went there before. It's along US40/Old National Pike and is very historic. Has a great view to the west, but you can look back to the mountains to the east as well. built 1907
