Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
Well silly me for thinking that once I got the last thing done on my truck it would be done. The last thing was the Line-x and today it was done. Then as the put the tailgate back on more work came to be in the form of them dropping the gate on the top edge of the bumper. Then the owner also showed me two other scratches that happened So I guess now I get to see just how well this paint matches up. He was very up front with the news and told me to let him know what it cost to get fixed and he will take care of it.
But the good news is the bed looks great and the truck will be ready for the Cal Expo show this weekend (I will be their Saturday) Kevin LFD Inc. |

Bed looks good. That scratch just adds a little character. It's a shop truck .

Man, that sucks
I see that you decided to go "over the rail." Could you post up some side shots of where they stopped? Still looks great

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
Kevin......bedliner looks great and I can relate to damaging stuff along the way.
I Believe that Cal Expo show is next weekend (if you're talking about the NSRA event)......same weekend as (the other) Kevin's get together down in Atwater......I'm kinda torn cuz I was thinking about putting mine in the Cal Expo thing too (kinda spendy though) or going down to Atwater....of course who knows how much fuel I would burn through driving down there and back. What to do......

I got a quart of paint this morning and already have the damage fixed and I will color sand and polish the spots Saturday morning before the show in Vacaville at the Nut tree. If I have time I want to hand polish the truck as well since I have not done that yet, it should turn out nice. Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
Wow, I just read through 43 pages and I am impressed you did an awesome job on this truck. As I was going through I kept wanting skip to the end to see the final product but I didn't want to miss any of the details.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
Been there done that! Took me quite a few late nights to read through some of his builds. Needless to say his build and others here inspired me to get involved with these trucks after 16 years of not owning one.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
Kevin I hope to meet you some day, I live in S.D. but my sister lives kind of near you, and I would love to see this truck first hand. I am going to be doing the same mod to my '69 C20 fleet and found your project most helpfull. I posted a bit about me in the welcome thread so I will not double post.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=313719 I plan on taking as many pictures as I can, and if you have any more words of caution for me I would apprieciate it.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
Kevin,
Thanks for all the inspiration. I have been following your build the whole way. You have inspired me to do a "low buck build" of my own. Thanks again for all of the great information and pics Here is my low buck lwb to swb conversion http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=320776 Check it out and let me know what you think... Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
could you or anyone give me the measurements from the red lines to the green line. Making a long bed floor into a short.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
if i measure up a short bed the only measurements i would get is the one from one red line to the other. What I need is the measurement from one red line to the green line so that when i mark them down on a long bed floor i know what section to cut out and that would make the green line meet. Am i confusing you?

It showed on the page below how much to remove from the rear section and where to take measurements from. Looks like you need to remove a total of eight inches from the rear section http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...223158&page=10

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
I get that part but kevin measured from the edge of the pocket hole not the edge of the bed floor. I have a long floor with no bedsides so it changes the measurements.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
Those dimensions could be anything the important part is the 8" you just need to pick a point in the middle and take 8" out.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
i think hes afraid the boltholes dont line up no more ........ i think you need to to bolt the back end of both sides when you made the first cut (make the rearcut first you need the pieces holding the rearlights there small so they should be eazy to handle) then you make a line between the parts across the floor it should line up then
i'm not sure wat you mean by not having the bedsides but if you have the shortbed versions you allso could cut the bed once bolt everything up to the bedsides so the boltholes line up and the floor overlaps then make the second line before diassemble and cut the second

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
What you take out is 12" off the front and 8" out of the rear. The front you will want it to include your second body mount (so it comes out with the 12") and the rear just needs to be in from the rear mounts.
This is the simple basic info for shortening the floor. I could go out side (but it's cold) and get some dim's off my bed but it is not needed. Their is no real science to were I made my cuts, I just did mine to remove the gas doors or any damaged areas. I know you are worried about the bed side holes lining back up but I don't know if the short and long sides have the same bolt placement so you may end up drilling your own holes anyways. But follow the top info and it will get you well on your way. Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
I cut a lwb floor down to fit a K5 then had to cut a swb bedside to fit also and all of the holes matched execpt one near the tailgate. They also matched orginal bedside that I didn't replace
